Can't catch fish like this in the Midwest. 270 lb. Grouper caught around 130 miles off the coast. Fresh caught Grouper retails for around $20 per lb. Nice haul for this guy. Grouper is tasty.

I think it is OK to take 1 ocean grouper per day. There is fresh caught grouper sold in restaurants down here every day.

I haven't been down in a few years, but last time I was on Marco Island there was a whole to-do amongst the locals about places claiming to be selling Grouper, but there was speculation that it was another, similar fish.

I looked it up and the rules are 2-4 grouper (depending on classification of fish) per day.

People are told to watch out for places selling substitute fish as grouper because of grouper's high price. Article I read said people were substituting other white fish and even catfish. IMHO, it's easy to tell when you are eating real grouper. The flavor is delicious and distinctive.
