Default Best Performance Data Recorder type app for iPhone?

Of those who have bought them, or tried multiple ones have any of you got any opinions of them?

I thought @Eagle has an app, I remember the video's from the half mile.

Looking for stuff that can overlay the speed/G-force/etc on top of video data the phone is recording.

Or Harry's Lap Timer

i have used lots of stuff. i have most of it left actually and should probably sell some...

data collection

setup 1:
old nokia phone
5 hz obd2 bluetooh (obdkey) (limited set of channels due to bandwidth limitations - pick 2, iirc)
5 hz and 10 hz qstarz gps pucks
racechrono application (free)

good: fair amount of data
bad: lot of fucking shit to juggle period, let alone when readying to go drive a session
video is separate

setup 2:
not jailbroken iphone 5 (limited gps/bt options)
1 of the 2(?) available 5 hz external gps
gopoint bt1 bluetooth (5 hz) - (i think the gps clock drives the app poll rate actually)
harry's lap timer ($$)

good: harry's renders vid and data together, some pretty nice vids online.
has a social angle to it.
bad: 1 hz data without external gps. the video does a good job of smoothing things out by filling in holes but you can see the map is chunky. the only reason things like the timer and speed are smooth is it is filling in the blanks as far as video is concerned. here is what real 1 hz data is like with no interpolation at all (click.click.click)

moar bad: i paid $20 for harry's, really only used it once and never posted the video. i only tried a day with this stuff once. the gps antenna broke like the 3rd time i tried to use it. i was also annoyed i already had this stuff from the nokia setup but had to purchase it anew, plus pay the premium for stuff actually iphone compatible. i should have just jailbroken my phone really. my barely used gopoint is on my desk right now and i should have put it up for sale on ebay yesterday.

setup 3: (current)
aim solo dl
good: collects 1 to 10 hz data depending on channel, most 10 hz. gets gps data and obd2 data. can display laps, rolling laps, various obd2 data (coolant, oil temp, etc.) on bright big display while driving.
bad: $700. there is a no obd2 version which still gets you all the great gps data, and at 10 hz, but it's 4 or 5 still. hard to find these discounted new, only time i ever saw was some on sale at gridlife 2.
video is separate

video rendering

harry's lap timer - shit is done

racerender - free app i never used but i think was decent/still supported. probably other ones out there too. made by racechrono guy. synch data and vids.

dashware - what all my vids are made with. modified some gauge clusters to make some custom ones (oil temp, brz dashboard) - was a cost but gopro bought out the development team. now free (probably little to no support)

other stuff - sure it's out there and more coming (gopro)

considerations:

lap analysis - if you really want to do it you should have at least 5 hz data. obd2 data i'm sure helps even more. since i'm a pud i mostly use my data to make videos no one ever watches, with the occasional scary almost crash one to show my mom

action cams - 1 or 2 generations of the garmin virb now do 1 hz data collection. the sony action cam for 2 generations has 1 hz as well. since gopro bought the dashware team, you can be certain that so will the next gopro. surprisingly late to the game, and surprisingly nothing out this year by christmas. negative of this might be that it would still be 1 hz. another negative with this in particular is your dashcam may not sit still, ie. if it is mounted to your helmet on a kart, your head is bouncing around, turning, etc etc. although this is probably a who cares for 99.99% of people.

I'm fine with not having the more expensive data recorders. Not really going racing with them, just HPDE stuff.

I can't use most of the OBD-II stuff because the TransAm is OBD-I, and there isn't really anything out there to take telemetry from the OBD-I port and pipe it into the iphone apps.

Almost every consumer level add-on out there is OBD-II only. I could use the OBD-II stuff on the Focus ST, and later Focus RS, but I'm not supposed to be tracking those cars hard.

i have both an obdkey and gopoint bt1 for sale. both are obd2 bluetooth readers. neither of which do i think i have any software or the instruction manuals around at this point, oops, but surely available online. i have logged data at 5 hz from both.

i use a wired system now (aim solo dl) - it was way nicer using these. i actually leave the other system in the car all the time. these you can pop out of yours and into a buddy's in 2 seconds.

Yeah, a BT 5hz GPS puck along with the iphone itself is probably all I'll need.

For the Focus ST/RS I can use the ELM adapter to get the OBD2 data. But when tracking the TransAm, I don't think there's anyway to integrate the OBD1 data. Which seems kind of odd since its a serial connection and they make serial to USB converters that work. You'd think a programmer could make a Serial to BT converter.

I can grab telemetry from Datamaster TTS and export to CSV text file, but I don't know how I'd even integrate that unless I used some video editing program to make guages and overlay them on top of straight video.

that is what i have done in all my videos, with dashware. racerender will do it and i'm sure there are others out now too. the tricky part is synching it well especially if you have a long video where an error will become noticeable. made trickier when your data is say 1 hz vs 5 or 10 hz as well.
