And I don't mean the battery operated ones you can get from Toys R Us.

Always toyed around with picking up one, but could never tell if it was just a novelty idea, or if I would actually use it enough to make it worth investing the money in them.

For those that have them, where do you run them?

the hobbytown in Crystal Lake (now i think its LITH) is going to have an indoor dirt track opening up next month. the store portion is open currently.

its electric only however. they have plans for an outdoor track as well which will allow nitro.

Julian if youre looking to get into RC stuff check out www.towerhobbies.com. they have the best prices online usually. sometimes you can find it cheaper on ebay but not often.

if i were buying my first rc car it would probably be this:

Thanks for the info so far!

ilikeMTB999, are there any indoor places where I would be able to drive "non offroad" cars at? I assume a smooth, gravel/debris free road is needed for "street" RC cars lol.

Isn't/wasn't there a Tower Hobbies store somewhere in Lake County? I remember him taking me places and him getting catalogs/magazines in the mail, I just don't remember where it was I was going lol. I know of Ron's Hobbies in Mundelein, but that's about it.

My dad has been into them passively since the 80s-90s, off the top of my head there are 2 helicopters, 2 planes and about 2-3 off road cars and a military style boat. Air/water vehicles are gas, and the cars are electric.

Crystal lake hobbytown does outdoor on-road driving. Not sure on indoor....I have a friend that is a hardcore on road racer. I'll ask him.

On road is cool if you've got a nice parking lot. It's not fun when it's not  I cringe everytime it scrapes a rock.

I've got an hpi nitro rs4 3 if you're interested. I've also got a micro rs4 (1/18th scale electric) that's brushless I may want to get rid of too. Small enough to drive around the house.

used to be really into it, but i think all i have left is an Team Associated TC-3 nitro and an RC-18R... both are modded to the point where they are too fast to control lol. i also have a Helicopter that i am decent at flying in calm weather.... that is to say i can take off and land without crashing, but in between is anybodys guess lol

How do you like that Savage? Thats the Truck right?

I have a T-max 3.5 that I love beating the shit out of every now and then.
It's 100x better then a t-maxx IMO. Traxxas plastic explodes just looking at it. Hpi plastic is like RPM stuff.

With that said the savage sure doesn't turn too great at speed like the t-maxx(I had one) but it sure makes up for it by surviving big ass jumps and flips. I've had mine for years.

Do you guys run them on specific/dedicated tracks or will any large open lot suffice lol?

Post up pics of what you got!
Anywhere really. Parks are good.

Venture has declined a ton in the last few years. They used to carry a lot in stock. Now I don't even think they carry fuel in gallons.

I’ve been playing with RCs on and off since I was a kid (the last twenty five years), but haven’t raced competitively since the late 90’s. My favorite classes were 1/8 Scale Nitro On-Road and 1/12 Scale Carpet (Four Cell / Stock).

I heard about the new Lake in the Hills HobbyTown having an indoor track (it’s only 10min from my house), I’m thinking about getting back into racing for the winter.

My Team Associated Collection
RC12L (2)
RC10 (2)
RC10 GT
RC250 (2)
RC500 (3)
RC18T
And a few old Tamiya kits

^^^ You should stop by! Support pretty much one of the only decent hobby shops around. I'm hoping they have some non-racing hours available. Though the only electric truck I have is the rc18mt.

I just picked up an Associated RC10B4.1 FT kit, so it looks like I have a new hobby for the winter. If you haven't been by HT in a while the track is almost done, just needs a drivers stand and timing equipment.
