Alabama is getting rid of marriage licenses.

A license will no longer be required. A ceremony is also not required.

People who want to get married can file for a marriage certificate which would be recorded at the courthouse or county offices. Once you file, you're married.

This change means judges who did not want to sign licenses for same sex marriages no longer need to do so. They record an affidavit instead.

The marriage industry is NOT happy.

wow surprising to see that anywhere, let alone alabama. that is the libertarian proposed solution - get government out of relationships.

much of the spread of marriage licenses came about because the wrong people were getting married - whites and blacks, oh my!

I eloped, don't remember it being a huge deal. It certainly wasn't any sort of insane drama to get married/get it in the state books if you will.

We went to Georgia, total price for beach ceremony including pictures was $650 just me my wife and kids, went to Hilton head for vacation afterwards way cheaper than some of my friends owing money for there wedding making payments for 5 years shits crazy

drove to court house, got license. following week took train downtown got courthouse married. done.

following year had reception at a hall. ~6k for 150 people. open bar beer wine (with spending limit) and had to pay more to keep bar open cuz we hit the limit. hall owner said it was the first time he has ever ran across that issue. but i'm sure he says that to everyone.
