How else do you propose it work? iMessage is encrypted, so the server is acting as the intercept. Noob

While AirMessage will still work on OS X 10.10+, it is recommended that you keep your computer as up-to-date as possible for the latest features. For example, only computers running macOS 10.12 Sierra or higher will receive tapback messages.

It isnt. Use an app that supports encrypted messaging...there are literally dozens. iMessage is literally whatsapp or signal made by apple only for IOS.
