We were just there in May.
Check out the Stockyards, Saltgrass Steakhouse for a good chain restaurant experience and great food for the price (not too expensive).
Texas motor speedway is also cool.
Klyde warren park is pretty awesome. Over 5 acres and a lot of food trucks, music, etc.
JFK street which is going near Klyde Warren park and is nice to see. There are conspiracy theorists all over there and that is their full time gig from what we were told.
Lake Arlington is nice, plenty of things to do there and see.

Tons of gun ranges around with some that have rentable full autos.
Denton is a college town with lots bars to hang out at.
Deep Ellum in dallas has a good night life too it and its not far from the JFK stuff
Ft Worth has Stockyards and 7th street. Stockyards has some good steak houses and the rodeo arena. Believe they do a rodeo almost every weekend.
Lots of parks for outdoor stuff around here too, all within a small driving distance.
Theres also 3 drags strips in the metroplex that has something going on any day of the week.
Also, DFW is only about 2.5 hrs from Austin as well, so you could make a day trip down there and do all that stuff. And its 3.5 hours to San Antonio, so you could do the Alamo and such.
