Cheap winch for car trailer.

Not looking for anything fancy. Just looking for a basic winch to pull a car up on a trailer if I'm ever in an emergency and need to recover my car alone.

Sort of like a one time use thing. Hopefully, I'll never need it, but it I do....


Would a come-along work? Or those ratcheting winches like boat trailer have?

Super winch with a pulley.
I can pull my big ass 8000 lb turbo diesel up an equipment trailer with an antique super winch 2500.
The pulley makes a huge difference.

I also switched to synthetic rope a few years ago, best thing ever.
No more getting torn to shreds, lays much nicer then steel.

Come-alongs suck. You'll be there awhile getting that thing up onto the deck, especially if you have any kind of decent incline.


If you're not gonna be thrashing the thing the Harbor Freight winches are pretty good bang for buck, just keep it covered if it's an open deck.




I have a curveball for you however, what's the ballpark weight of the car?

Exactly, screw that BS, for ~$100 you can get a cheap Superwinch.
Make it removable and it'll last forever.

I bought a 5,000 lb at winch from harbor freight. It's good enough to get my fox body on the trailer.
