I my wive's crv. 30mpg always and it's fulltime awd... comfy as shit. tons of "lux" options... lane control, radar cruise, accident collision avoidance stuff, etc. just to get a 17+ you're going to have to pay a good chunk for it.

although i bet cloth fwd ones would get crazy mileage and be reasonable.

different company.

BJ likes flauntin' their brahds

where i was at tried their best to have a "family experience" and not do that.
I like them but they’re out of my price range. Everything I read about the small SUVs pretty much says they’re about equal in the MPGs, space and power. I’d be looking at a lower trim 10-12’ CRV for 15-17k with 60-80k on it. I can buy a brand new escape SE for 19

the crv's do hold their value insanely well.

made it easier to bite off what we had to pay for a new one.

Shit. Brutally cold in Madison, high winds. -1 and 30mph winds out on the lake. Had one on and snapped the line right at the hole. Shanty shattered one of the piles when I went to move it. Dragging a sled with 150lbs on it a good half mile through 2’ snow drifts. Had a dude on an ATV tow me back in which was awesome.

I still had a good time though. I stayed at my friends place, we’ve been buddies since kindergarten. Hung out with him, his wife and kids, did plenty of bar hopping Saturday night.

My only complaint is I cant put my golf clubs in the cargo area side to side, I either have to fold down a seat and lay them in front to back, or take out the driver and toss that in at an angle while the bag goes side to side.

I have a 2015 SE 2.0 with AWD.... Zero complaints, but at 20k miles I would hope that is the case.

As long as it’s a manual transmission

The automatic transmissions in Subarus are garbage, especially the CVT. Hell, the CVT is not exceptional well built in most vehicles, including Honda, with Nissan having he worst CVT.

The cvt in the crv works fine.

Always has enough power at whatever speed you're going, feels like a snowmobile almost.

https://www.caranddriver.com/honda/cr-v

Quote:
Honda did its homework planting its first turbocharged engine in a CR-V and pairing it with one of the best continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs) available—praise we don’t give lightly. The base four-cylinder engine is less responsive but provides smooth operation. While most compact crossovers have meager towing limits, the Honda has one of the lowest at 1500 pounds.
Quote:
Although CVTs aren’t our favorite transmission type, the continuously variable automatic in use here is among the most tolerable. It simulates “shifts” at the appropriate time, so the rubber-band sensation is mostly absent. After a brief low-rpm lull as the turbo spins up, acceleration is linear and seamless, and the CVT and turbocharged four-cylinder are about as well matched as any automatic-transmission-and-engine combo these days. Considering that the engine’s maximum torque arrives at a relatively low 2000 rpm and hangs on until 5000 rpm, the CVT has a wide swath of grunt to work with, and what it gives up in instant response it makes up for with predictability and by largely staying invisible in operation.

Consider looking at a 60k or less mile Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot (can have years on it) especially in FWD for better fuel economy or less maintenance. AWD is fine if you really need.

what are 17 fwd crv's going for?

also fwiw anyone wondering...

When it comes to efficiency, though, the CR-V shames all compact-SUV comers. EPA-rated at 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, the AWD CR-V tops its peers by margins not usually seen within highly competitive segments. That’s a whopping 5 mpg better in both measures than the equivalent all-wheel-drive Escape, which also is powered by a 1.5-liter turbo, as well as the Toyota RAV4 AWD. In our real-world highway fuel-economy test, run at 75 mph, we recorded 32 mpg for the CR-V, just 1 mpg shy of its EPA highway rating.

I'm all fucked up. Correct thread this time.

What a fucking weekend.

Venue searching.

Snow blowing.

Dog slicing his paw open and needed stitches.

Saturday was a blur.

Not enough weekend.

Consider staying away from a CVT transmission unless you plan on spending $5k + for when that time bomb goes off.

Look at the Pilot and Highlander
