The install is the tougher part. It needs a vent cut, but @Yaj Yak already had a hole so he was good to go already.

I would have completely gone this way if I didn't need to vent.

Ecobee with smartthings here, was Nest.

I kick mine up in the am and let it drop the rest of the day. Toyed with it kicking up when we came home but it wouldn’t come up by the time we got there and it seemed pointless especially since you open the door and let the heat out when you pull in.

So I do 60 in the am then 45 the rest. I manually kick it up when I am going to be out there.

oh its not that bad of a install. i just finished a install from nothing last week.

only took about 40ft of gaspipe, 6ft of b-vent, 6" hole saw, pipe threader, pipe cutter, a coil of romex, some assorted fittings, 5 trips to home depot and about 14hrs of labor.

i still dislike those wall mounted units like you picked up.

Trust me, I debated A LOT with myself... but two neighbors have these units and they work decent. The way I see it, I'll run the gas out there and be that much closer to having what I need to run the Maxx if the wall mount disappoints for whatever reason.

Not sure why everyone is so afraid of cutting a circular hole in a roof.

It's so easy to install. If you can change a starter on a car you can install a roof vent.

All you need is a ladder, sawzall, permanent marker, plumb bomb, flat wide crowbar, roof sealant, flashing, storm collar, vent pipe, top vent, and roofing nails with about 1hr of time

Sorry it's just too damn funny you want to act so knowledgeable and mighty about the subject when you couldnt even install a ventless heater on your own.

Hey, a "pro" recommended it! Appealing to authority is always the business class ticket for deflecting ones own ignorance.

so you can control your home and garage from the same thermostat??? I'm getting confused. How does this happen.

Why 45 during the rest? I let mine drop to 40 (lowest setting i have).

I do agree though that heating up before you get home is kind of pointless..

Ecobee goes to 45 and technically my heater says not to go below 50. I let it get below 40 one time and it had a hard time firing but that was when I had the nest and left it at 40.

So I just insulated my garage doors, because cheap piece of shit. The reflective stuff was store bought insulation at Menards. The other door was a stack of insulation my parents gave me I had to cut in pieces. The little heater was set on low and I recently shut it off. I'm going to check in a little bit to see what it dropped to. The walls are also insulated.

I think outside temp was around 30ish and I was just fine with no heater today for a couple hours, once those single digits or maybe teens hit then its time to fire up the propane but for now using the extra polar bear weight to my advantage

Well, it was 35 in the garage when I started I'm sure for the most part I'll be fine without the heater. My garage usually stays in the 40s on its own.

Not to poke at his install but I think you need more clearance off the back?

Where did you install? Which way I should it pointed? Where is Thermostat?
he didn't seem to think so- the vent goes out and straight up and then through the existing flue through the roof.

the walls surrounding the unit don't even get warm to the tough after its cranking so it should be good.

red is heater, black box below it is new closet, door to the garage to the left of that

green box is thermostat

brown lines are new stairs

Looks like the thermostat is to the right out of the picture, you can see a wire going into a conduit run.
thermostat is on that wall. no longer on the wall with conduit but ran inside of the wall.

I don’t know why it’s 18” just thought it was weird if yours was completely different since the units are likely built side by side in the same factory in China.
