Olympic organisers are distributing 450,000 condoms to athletes and staff, the Associated Press reports. And in the interest of variety, 100,000 of those will be female condoms and 175,000 lubricant packs will also distributed.
The amount is three times more than for the London Games four years ago, according to the International Olympic Committee. And with approximately 10,500 athletes and staff, that’s an Olympic record of roughly 42 condoms per person.
Presuming the athletes are paired with each other and use only one condom per encounter, that’s enough contraception for 84 encounters. That’s a lot of sex.
