I'm surprised Hawaii is so low.
I'm betting the 1% in ND made their money elsewhere and just moved to ND to get away from big cities.
big natural gas boom happened up there a while back pretty much ruined the job market for regular jobs mcdonalds starts at 20 bucks an hour in some areas, your average pipeliner makes 150-200k a year in ND
Back when I did physician recruiting, ND and states that arent as "desirable" paid out the ASS for doctors. Even Family Practice doctors were getting 400k to start, was insane. This was of course many years ago.
Same goes for west texas in the oil industry. Waffle house employees make like 15-17 an hour in odessa/midland area. Rarely can you find a room open at the bigger motel/hotels. Always filled with company trucks.
my company has a bunch of stuff in texas I want to transfer so bad, stupid having a house in illinois slowing me down

Yep... It's insane out there. I've considered trying to go out there for 2-3 years and just pack money away, come home and buy a house cash lol.
Money is great out there...but damn does it suck. Absolutely nothing out there. Only good thing is you're 5 hrs from las cruces which has great rock crawling trails.
