Pre-Winter Furnace Maintenance

With lows dipping down into the mid 40's the next few days I might have to turn on the heat at night. I usually just vacuum it out and replace the air filter. Anything else that is needed?

You might want to clean the flame sensor. Other than that there's not much to it.

don't clean the flame sensor until you're having issues. more likely going to damage something pulling it apart than anything. if it's giving you issues, then clean it.

really nothing to do other than keep a clean filter in it and vacuum it out every other season.

Fire it up before you need it just to make sure everything is good to go, let it cycle off on its own.

my whole house humidifier fights me every single fawkin year, fingers crossed NOT again

soak the humidifier filter in some CLR or weak solution of muriatic acid, it'll eat that calcium right off it. be sure to rinse it well afterwards. or, just buy a fresh one

change the battery in your smoke detector & make sure your carbon monoxide detector is working also

it depends on your furnace..Aprilaire 550/600 is a by-pass installation (sheet metal etc) or 700 is a power humidifier (easier install w/powered fan,but a few bucks more,not much)..700 should be your best bet.

try starting up a rooftop unit after replacing the heat exhchanger and there's still oil dripping out of the tunes from the bender at the factory

Just had to replace the fan last season. Vac that deal out, open the humidifier vent and turn on the thermostat! That's that.

Did the same thing last year do u want an aftermarket fan or oem ? My old fan at the end sounded like there was a loud whistle inside my vents

Another thing that needs to be done periodically is clean out the condensation drain. If it gets clogged up (as mine has) your furnace will only run for a short time before shutting off.

that's only on a 90+ furnace, and again not something worth dicking with until you've got a problem.
