South Side isn't as bad as the haters think...

That's why.

I wasn't trying to be a hater but near the area where I live there is an excess of gated communities along with nicer vehicles and a pretty present police force driving around. I'm just shocked that's all. Especially with the average home price and median family income in the area

The criminals know there is money and probably steal a lot of shit there. Probably almost no violent crime though.

Neither did my city, which is relatively violent crime free. List is garbage.

There’s nothing more important than the safety and security of your home and loved ones. In addition to being smart about home security, it’s just as vital to understand your community’s record for keeping residents safe and sound. SafeWise understands how crucial living in a safe city is, whether you’re happily settled or looking to make a change. That’s why we’ve compiled the most recent FBI Crime Report along with our own independent research to bring you the top 50 safest places to call home in Illinois.

To make our list, a city had to have a population of over 5,000 as of 2012 and needed to meet criteria regarding both violent and property crimes, according to FBI statistics from 2012. We analyze the number of violent crimes (aggravated assault, forcible rape, murder, robbery) and property crimes (arson, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft) and then calculate the chance of these crimes happening out of 1,000 in order to level the playing field for the different populations of each city.

these statistics are retarded.

Another site said Downers Grove is the 2nd best place to raise children in illinois... yet it isnt on this list... but there are some QUESTIONABLE towns on this list.

cabrini green mudda fuckas!!

Downers could be 51 on this list and have a bunch of other plusses that make it a great place to raise a kid. There are like 300 cities in IL...

Don't get your panties in a bunch, just join the local gang, they will keep you safe in DG

I'm off of Nippersink between Wilson and Fairfield. I'm not sure what my house is worth but have seen houses in my immediate neighborhood going for $300k. The same goes for the area over off of Rt. 60. The biggest thing here is which school disctrict you're in since a lot of areas don't actually go to RL schools. There is Round Lake which is a shithole, Lake Villa/Antoch, Grayslake and Grant school districts. The other thing is your location and how close you are to the "bad" areas. Round Lake Park (what I'm guessing is RLP) isn't too far from shopping and all of good wholesome people (cough) of RL.
