If the idea of Comcast buying out Time Warner Cable to become the largest cable company in America wasn't enough to make you worry about media consolidation, news [Wednesday] from the Wall Street Journal just might. Reportedly, AT&T has approached DirecTV to begin 'possible acquisition' talks, a deal that the WSJ says could be worth over $40 billion. If it were to happen, it would give the combined company something on the order of 26 million TV subscribers, making it second only to the hypothetical Comcast/TWC combination of 30 million.

They've been partnered with DirecTV for a while in the sense that if they absolutely cannot provide Uverse to someone that's simply too far to get a broadband signal they recommend using DirecTV. A merger or buyout is just natural progression.

And when the Bell companies ran the show it was a monopoly and it was the best thing to ever happen, no one cared about how long it took to make something perfect (within reason) and you never had multiple people going back for the same problem. Everyone was extremely well trained to the Nth degree and overtime was the norm. Now it's like putting just a bandaid on something when you know there is a lot more wrong. We don't get time to make it perfect, we just get time to make it work.
