Novak ballistic. Never run motor temp past 160s the magnants inside will start to demagnetize, I run mine around 140 and have a alarm on my controller when it hits 155. I use a temp sensor that works with my controller. Any temp reader will work and get you in the ballpark. Gearing all depends on what your doing.

Seems like a good choice. I like the castle creations stuff because they've got a slick tuner for it and their warranty program has been great. I had a 5 year old mamba kit that went dead and they sent me a new updated kit for free with no questions asked.

I went with an ESC from Stan @ Brushless Hobbies. Try to go hardcase 2s lipo, the higher the C rating the better. On these, I have run direct wire and also terminal cases, I don't really have a preference for one over the other. I also ran a green can Tacon, but they are hard to come by in ideal KVs nowadays. This was last year, but this approx what I paid:
3660 3000KV Tacon $30
Brushless Hobbies 120A ESC $65
Generic 2S lipo 30c $20

For bashing, you would want to run a higher voltage, lower amperage setup. This is easier on the ESC, and more efficient as well.

For the castle stuff I'd say a Mamba Max Pro with a 1415 motor. This motor only turns 2400rpm/v but can take up to 5S lipo.

at 5S lipo it would be spinning about 45,000rpm but the torque generated would be insane.

It would move a 4WD short course truck like it was a feather.

Plus it also means the load on the batteries is less as well, because overall current draw is less. And if you really want to go stupid, insane fast all you gotta do is gear up.

I have a Mamba Max Pro and a Castle 1410 3800kv motor powering my OFNA Nexx8 1/8th buggy and while its not uber fast on 4S it certainly moves out well enough. The Nexx8 is a heavy beast though compared to a Short course truck.

Right to Left: Castle 1717 1580kv, Castle 1515 2200kv, and Castle 1410 3800kv.

Holy hell, the 1410 costs $162 by itself! Why is that thing so much better than the one I posted?

Castle Creations 1/10 1415 Series Brushless Mtr 2400 kV SC T (CSE060-0030-00) | RC Planet

You can find them much cheaper than that.

There's a guy on Ebay I buy stuff from, very good prices. I bought the Castle 1717 1580kv from him for $160 shipped. And THAT is a badass motor. Same one they use in the Traxxas XO-1 pretty much, 100mph+.

Also, I had the MMP/3800kb combo in my OFNA Hyper 10TT truggy. This is a 10th scale Truggy version of the Hyper 10sc short course truck. And it MOVED out on 3S. Damn near wheelies everywhere. In the end JUST to keep the front wheels from exploding I had to put some 300,000wt diff fluid in the center because it was unloading that badly.

On 2S, it was meh, fast enough but really not anything note worthy. On 3S with the gearing I was running top speed was about 45mph, but it was 45mph of Saturn-5 rocket acceleration.
