GTPpower Yeah, it looks like it'll be really easy. The hardest part will probably just be finding fittings that fit them and my brake lines.

I'm thinking the guy that built this car may have been in the process of switching to line lock and then decided to part it out. I dont know why else you would remove the e brake system.

v6buicks Since you've already gone as far as you did, I would put a line lock in as well. They're pretty simple. I thought about doing that when I replaced brake lines in my Camaro, but I didn't want to go through the hoops of (properly) deleting my ABS. Good luck! I dig the build.

GTPpower @Ron Vogel did you have a line lock on your GP?
06-16-2019 10:50 PM
GTPpower Also, when I was working on the rear brake caliper, I noticed the e-brake system has been completely removed from the car. I'm not going to mess around with a rusty junkyard car to get the parts to put it back on. It looks like installing a line lock would be really easy to do, and should only cost about $100.

GTPpower Little update here.

Nothing was really wrong with the control arms, but I figured since I need an alignment anyways, I will just rebuild them.

New Moog tie rod ends.

Moog problem solver ball joints, rear poly joints, and moog problem solver fronts. These should really help on launches.

Got the fuel cell mounted.

I got the master cylinder bench bled and mounted.

Decided to replace the brake lines since this was a Michigan car for most of its life. Bought a couple rolls of nickel copper line. This stuff is so nice to work with.

I pulled one brake line off at a time and bent the new one up right next to it.

All of them installed and ready to attach.

The new brake booster connects to the pedal a little differently. I had to remove the peg so it would work, then realized that the piece of metal on the side of it contacts the brake switch, so I welded that back on.

Getting ready to bleed the brakes, I checked all the bleeder valves. The right rear twisted off inside the caliper.

Advance had a new one for $50.

Bought this relay box and switch panel to make wiring a bit cleaner and easier.

98GrandPrixIraqVet Post #127 is exactly why this car was basically come get it price. Im happy it went to someone thats doing it right and not letting it sit longer and turn to dust quicker than a w body rocker panel.

Im so anxious to see how it turns out and what it runs!

Kick ass updates!

This thread makes me happy.

GTPpower Haven't heard any details. They were supposed to be testing a new bottom end with like 11:1 compression, so I'm just guessing they had an issue with that.

wtf did they do, any details?

GTPpower Also, side note.

Rumor is, zzp blew up their m90 car. Hopefully they dont abandon the project so I have some competition.

..and the pump outlet
05-16-2019 08:39 AM
GTPpower No huge progress, as I'm still waiting for the machine shop to get done with everything. Been doing little stuff here and there though.

I took apart the intercooler pump to try and get a better idea how it will perform. The inlet it perfect. The outlet, not so much. I still think it will work better than any electric pump, but not quite as well as I would hope. I may do some porting on the outlet to try and help it out.

The exit rectangle is maybe 1" x 1/2".

Found a set of minty tails for the car, since these have moss growing in them.

The car's body is pretty clean. But the one major flaw is the builder pulled out the sunroof, riveted a piece of plexiglas over it, spray painted it black, and then plasti-dipped the roof. I pulled all that off.

Cut a roof off a car in the junkyard and traced it to fit.

Tacked it into place.

I dont think I could be a body man....this took forever.

Grinding it down flat also took a long time. I did manage to get a few warps in the roof, but they aren't too bad. I think I can get rid of them with filler. Then, primer, paint, and clear. I also need to paint the front bumper cover and the hood. I want to make sure the hood will clear the blower setup before I paint it though.

The guy that built the car was evidently much smaller than me, because I dont fit. At all. So I bought new seats, another 5 pt harness, and brake lines. The new aluminum just came in for the seat mount bracket, so I need to get that welded up.

Also mounted up the new master and brake booster so I can delete abs.

Sounds about right. I was at 19psi with 90# springs and had pretty bad valve float.

1quick Eventually the trans will shit the bed but there probably really cheap now at the junkyard, I talked to a guy once with a gxp that had a built ls motor and a 200 shot that only did 1/2 mile events from a roll and his jasper reman trans was going on a few years
04-10-2019 08:39 PM
1quick I think you could build something decent for like 5k if you do all the work your self and make a turbo kit from scratch use all eBay parts including the fuel system, then just keep it turned down to like 400whp and never dig race it
04-10-2019 08:29 PM
10sec So, to not defend the people saying what they say, it really kinda does cost thousands and thousands of dollars to be quick in a 3800 platform. And by quick, let's say 10's. Cause you can go 12's for pretty cheap as long as you're well aware the stock trans you're doing it on is going to go on break and not coming back one day.
04-10-2019 08:18 PM
1quick That’s doable agreed
04-10-2019 08:10 PM
10sec Good call, I was just referring to a $2k turbo kit

10sec Truth is though, you can build a 600whp turbo car for pretty cheap, probably less than $2k to do it reliable enough to stay together. OBVIOUSLY you can do it cheaper, but you'll end up picking up the tab with tows back to the garage. BUT if you have any fun with it, like 2-3 drag days a year, you will be rebuilding the trans every year. If you want it done right, you're looking at least $2k to have it done. That's probably 30+ days of downtime with shipping the trans to trannyman, rebuild, getting it back and having to remove and replace it, which sucks.

So, to stick with it, knowing damn well that's the life the car will live is pretty fuckin' awesome and why these 3800 threads are so damn popular. So, FUCK the haters, do your thing and go beat the stock m90 only 1/4 mile time.

GTPpower I did. No reply yet though.
04-10-2019 04:01 PM
Mook You'd have to hop over to FB and ask.
04-10-2019 04:00 PM
GTPpower I'm curious what he's calling quick.
04-10-2019 03:54 PM
Mook According to FB, it takes thousands and thousands of dollars to make the platform fast. PACK IT UP BOYS
04-10-2019 03:41 PM
10sec Yeah, no idea.

Don’t you love it?

I did cam for someone, and told him I couldn’t tune it until he fixed his lack of fuel (injectors/pump). Told him to stay out of the gas until he got his fueling fixed. Windowed his block in under 24 hours. At least I got paid...but he stalked me on forums for a few months saying it was my fault. People are stupid
