ilikemtb999 Our civic has gone on some longer trips both west and south west over many mountain passes and has always returned over 40mpg doing it. It’s screaming up passes but then long coasts on the other sides. I think it more than evens out.

I kept thinking the same thing, less dense air less fuel, better mileage. But everything I read says that cars should get worse fuel economy, but the car theoretically has to work harder, to do the same work. But if you don't have your foot in it, I can totally see why you'd get better mileage.

ilikemtb999 When I first moved here I remember my Wrx consistently getting better mpg than in Illinois. No air means no fuel.....but also less hp. It also idled waaaay smoother here and didn’t have the typical boxer shake.

yeah, my relatives out west vehicles have always gotten really respectable mileage.

LS powered stuff, 7.3 deezul back in the day, traverse. whatever.


her 02ish burban she bought new was pulling like 21mpg lifetime.

Yeah, I would agree it's pretty darn good, especially around town at altitude
