i'd be comfortable running 7.5 lbs through an LS anything long before i'd throw it at an 8.1.

for sure.

Yaj Yak yeah. id be nervous.

Kensington Just curious, as that Raylar site said not to run anything more than a few pounds of boost without going forged bottom end.

Other than cam, yes.

Keep in mind, the CR was only like 9.1:1 or something and was all cast iron. S0 you have a shit load of room to run a lot of boost. 7.5 psi wasn't even stressing anything.

My 2002 8.1 Suburban with 4.10 gears. The truck made 407hp/558ft-lb torque at the rear wheels (about 520hp715 ft-lb at the flywheel). In stock form an 8.1 will produce 240-250hp rear wheel so this is a pretty healthy gain. Mods include an Intercooled Whipple Supercharger making 7.5# of boost -

a Volant induction, TOG mid length headers, Direct Hits Ignition and custom programming. The rest of the exhaust exits through the stock muffler with a Corsa tip (I like it quiet ). This will soon be upgraded to a split rear system with polished 4" stainless steel tips. The factory torque converter has been replaced with a Yank 2600 and a TransGo shift kit provides firmer shifts at wide open throttle. This truck will leave patches on the pavement if I roll into it hard at 20 MPH

cmntmxr57 I wonder if T-Byrne's was a whipple and not Magnacharger. He had it almost immediately back in 2002/3.

cmntmxr57 Now. Back in 2002 pickings were slim. I seem to remember something coming out eventually (heads/cam), but by then I didn't want to spend the dough.

I mean, I had a Volant air box, then fabbed up my Magnaflow mufflers, cooler t-stat and a tune, but that was about it. Parts, unless you went internal, weren't really easily swappable between earlier gens IIRC. T-Byrne of T-Byrne motorsports (if any of you recall that scam job), did have a Maggie on his 8.1L 'Burb, so that is an option.

I think my biggest beef was getting the Allison to hold an extra 500rpm before shifting under WOT. When Keith at HP Tuners was using mine as a basis for their 8.1 option back in the day, I asked about this and he said that he couldn't (at that time), do anything with that because the Allison has a separate controller and they hadn't cracked it yet.

heads/cams/headers exist, i saw a dude who turbo'd his...
