nytebyte What happens when your Vette's LAN crashes:

Just reboot it when it has problems. That usually fixes everything.

Ron Vogel LAN? Oh that should be a treat...when it glitches and it loses IP addy. I work with a lot of that in industry, good tech...but messes up randomly. Not that it's not quickly recoverable. Would suck travelling at football fields per second speed when the LAN has to reconnect.

Profibus is more robust

IceCreamAssassin If they get this car dialed in, itís gonna change some games.

SleeperLS I can understand them having so many issues as it is the very first of it's kind. A mid engine car has never been done before.

cmntmxr57 I was gonna post it's stiffness issue.

But 900 - 1,000 hp from the factory. That tests MY stiffness.

Pressure Ratio Ya, chassis rigidity is so important in these newer cars. Not only to handle chassis twist due to the engine torque for the bodies sake. But to keep the tires on the ground and suspension doing its job. Plus it keeps the suspension mounting points where they are designed to be. A spring mount moving or control arm mounting point moving can cause inconsistent handling and so on. Less body movement leading to less interior panels squeaking, rattling, and so on. It will be interesting to read later on what development went into the making of this car. And what they had to overcome along the way.

Great White Drake They’ll get it figured out. I just love that they’re pushing the envelope so far. Like a handful of cars from the 60’s that had too much hp for their chassis.
03-13-2019 08:24 AM
Pressure Ratio I don't think you understand how this is supposed to work...

Great White Drake That’s badass! Window shattering hp. Nasty.

Kensington manufacturing process defect?

Pressure Ratio Nowadays they can design and "test" things with computers well before they get to manufacturing test rigs. So for them to have a major issue like that is pretty crazy.

Maybe the original task was for a much lower power motor? And this 900-1,000 version is beyond the design window originally given to engineers?

Similar to our previous exclusive report on the matter, Hagerty alleges that a complicated new electrical architecture is one of the reasons behind the delays. This next-generation electrical system, which will feature a number of computers that will talk to each other via Local Area Network (LAN), is posing a number of problems for engineers. The electrical architecture will not only appear on the C8 Corvette, but on a number of other upcoming General Motors vehicles as well.

Quote:
Additionally, the Corvette team has apparently hit a roadblock with regards to the C8 Corvette’s chassis stiffness. Hagerty says that one prototype equipped with a particularly powerful, 900-1,000 hp version of the supercar’s new twin-turbocharged V8 engine experienced “structural distortion of the aluminum spaceframe,” upon acceleration which even broke the rear engine compartment glass. This has sent Chevy back to the drawing board for the new MR platform, although it’s not clear if this problem has been solved yet.
Quote:
The third and final reason for the delay, per Hagerty’s source, is an unknown disagreement between the designers and the development engineers. The publication didn’t specify what the issue was, so it could be with regards to interior ergonomics or outward visibility, among a host of other potential problems.
