Hey Guys, Just thought I'd make a "build thread" for my little monster

A little Back story:
I used to drive a 2008 Evo 10, but in August 2010 I was in a bad accident on my motorcycle (a Triumph Daytona 675) and I suffered many injuries, the biggest being a total loss of movement in my right arm. Since my Evo X was manual, and I couldn't move my right arm anymore, I couldn't drive it. I thought I would have to give up driving stick for the rest of my life... One day I saw a friend on facebook post a picture of her friends' right hand drive evo. I immediately got the idea to bring over a car from the uk, or japan.

My original plan was to bring over an Evo X FQ400, however, I had no idea what had to be done to get one imported. I asked my friend to talk to the guy with the Evo 7 about what I needed to do to import the car. He said, "my wife is 7 months pregnant, and I need to get rid of one of my toys, do you want to buy it?" to which I replied "SOLD!"

This is one of only a handful of cars that have a manual trans that I can drive, in this country. I love getting into this thing and being able to drive a manual car again. After being without one for almost a year, I get a big grin on my face every time I get in the car

So the car is a real, JDM Evo 7. The First Evo brought to the US was the 8 (as a 2003 model) The JDM cars have ACD (Active Center Diff) which was available on 2005+ US Evos. The JDM Evos also has AYC (Active Yaw Control) US cars didn't get AYC until the Evo X's in 2008.

Ironically enough, I was run over by an evo9. Broke my arm at the elbow and had pretty bad nerve damage. 3 surgeries later and its mostly healed. Still got a plate at the elbow and some nerve issues still.

Damn, that's terrible :(

I ended up hitting my shoulder so hard that every nerve that went from my spinal cord to my right arm was torn out of my spinal cord. As you probably know they can repair stretched or torn nerves, but not if they are torn out of the spinal cord. I've got a couple of big plates in my shoulder too.

This is one impressive vehicle. Great story to go with it too! I really want to get into road racing! Seeing builds like this don't help deter me very well either.

Sick ride, Zack! :bigthumb:

You'd probably liquidate your fun toys and start a project such as his if you got a ride in it. This car to me is a lot more fun that even the "big turbo cars" especially on the street. The quick spool up of the car puts it hitting fulll boost at the most 2300RPM, which makes it feel nothing like a 4 cyl, and doesn't drop off up top like one would think it would. We had a great time working Zack's EvoVII yet again, and it has opened my eyes to the world of small turbo setups becoming a lot better of an option for people looking for a fun street setup.

Zack- I hope you have as much fun with the new setup on your car as we did while tuning it. This car is going to be a blast on the road track this coming summer!

Thanks a lot! Be careful though, the track bug is very addicting!

I'm sure it'll be a blast out on the track! I'm going to have to take it slow at first though, considering last time I had it out on the track it probably had 100+whp less

I love this car!!! My only import soft spot is evo's except tens. Love these cars
Thank you!!
Gorgeous car, and very cool story (sorry to hear about the accident).
Do you get a lot of odd looks with the car out on the roads?

Basically just like Calvin said, you get a ton of double takes from people  A lot of people don't even notice it though

Yeah pretty sure I have seen this Evo around at some point when I was driving home from work.

The previous owner lived in chicago too, but he didn't drive it a whole lot

That car is sick, and sorry about the accident. This may be a dumb question, but is the shift pattern opposite since it is right hand drive? (1st gear being all the way to the right and foreward, instead of the traditional left and foreward).

There is no such thing as a dumb question. :)
The pattern is the same as a left hand drive car. So first gear is to the left and forward. The pedal position is the same as a left hand drive car as well.
The turn signal stalk and windshield wiper stalk are reversed (turn signal is the right stalk)

No; it's the exact same pattern as a lhd vehicle. Same with the pedal layout.

Edit: damn too slow

The weirdest thing I've found about driving a rhd car is the door up against your right side. Feels super weird. Shifting with your left actually doesn't feel as weird as I thought.
The weirdest thing that I found was that normally the right hand side view mirror is the "objects are closer than they appear" but on a RHD car the left mirror is the objects are closer than they appear mirror. Switching back and fourth between RHD and LHD can get a little confusing
Ive heard it takes some getting used to shifting with your left hand.

It isn't all that bad, you get used to it really quickly.
