That look great.
I wish I would have gotten a Cherokee sport instead of my stupid gtp back in the day.
Thanks man. I've got a soft spot for 3800's as my first car was an 01 Regal
It's a shame I didn't find this site sooner, or the 3800 mod community as a whole or I may still have it... was a great car and comfortable as shit.
So I've got a few minutes to sit down and run down the work I've done on the truck. I started out with the Jeep in July of 2010. I bought it how you see it here with 113,000 miles.
It stayed primarily like you see it here until November of 2010 when It was involved in an accident (Co-Worker was borrowing it
)
I drove it like this for awhile, and it proceeded to get beat up from being a city truck seeing 100 miles a day, and being driven by a then 18 year old who like to drive over shit
old sig
It got stickerbombed because I thought I was cool....
Notice how all the pictures seem to avoid the front passanger side
Well, the last hoorah for the XJ was Snow-Drift in late January of 2011. Going through Gary, Indiana (FUCK Gary, Indiana) I ended up loosing both of my rear fender flares hitting a bump in construction with five people in it and luggage for a weekend. I ended up seeing commercials for insane rebates on new (at the time) 2011 GMC Sierra's and as many of you may know ended up picking up mine on Febuary 15th, the Jeep had just crossed 150,000 miles on the way back and I decided I was going to turn it into something fun because I had a new DD to enjoy.
It ended up sitting in my grandmas garage from Feburary until about August when I decided it was time to start playing with it again. I decided I wanted to go flareless for clerance (and it had mainly been decided for me by Snow-Drift and an Acura MDX)
The bodywork begins... it was mainly rust free when I got it, but I fell into the whole it's a jeep thing, lets not wash it mentality and the rust began... I also had a messed up front end to deal with. The front doors were removed for 4th of July because I felt like driving it doorless, and I knew I eventually wanted to fix the bottoms near the pinch weld where they started to rust a bit. The leading corners also needed some attention from being bent out to open and close doors after the accident.
I started by sanding down everything from the bottom bodyline down, patching rust and POR-15ing most of the bottom. Re-undercoated the bottom side as the floors had not began to rust yet as well (no pics) I ended up truck bed coating everything because it gave a tough, textured surface, and would allow me to simply spray over it if it was damaged or started to show rust again.
Now started my repair on the front end, I've yet to replace the front grill and bumper because I'm going with a winch bumper, and just decided that I'll wait until the snow is gone to do any more painting. I did however grab a fender from the local pick-and-pull and sand/prep/paint/color sand it.
