Default Bought a 1994 Del Sol Si

I wasn't particularly looking for this car, but it was a one owner vehicle that only has 41,100 miles on it. It has no rust, and was owned by a lady in the western burbs who apparently never drove it in the winter. It had a bunch of fine scratches and a few dings on the exterior, but mechanically is in great shape along with minimal wear to the interior. The 5 speed manual has no slop, and shifts like every Honda should.

I buffed the car with some compound, polish, and then waxed to get a majority of the scratches out. But I will need to get the front and rear bumpers fixed and do some touchups to the paint here and there. It drives great and feels like it probably did 20+ years ago. I drove it with the targa roof off and the rear window down for a bit just for kicks this weekend.

Once I have it fixed up a bit more, it will be a tough decision to sell it or keep it as it will probably run forever with low maintenance costs.

Driving it back to back with my Focus ST is interesting. Obviously it is slower with minimal torque, and the stock suspension and tall tires aren't very sporty. Seeing any Honda Civic Si with a tiny and quiet exhaust pipe seems weird for some reason. But it is quite nimble, easy to drive, and really unique.

Once I became aware of how easy they are to steal, I put a steering wheel lock on it. And that just makes it even more a 90's car now... LOL

Holler at me if you end up wanting to sell it. You'll probably want too much, but worth a shot.

If you had a place to store it I would sit on it. Drive it minimally. Just like third gens are now becoming collectors cars, so will this. Its all in the timing. Someone who has money will eventually want his high school car again and you could make a pretty penny on it.

Just my thoughts. Cool little car

I don't really have long term plans for it. Most likely putting it up for sale in the early part of 2018 when people have tax refund money to spend.

From checking Autotrader, it seems like asking prices are about $2500-$3000 with 200k miles. $6000-$8000 for 80-110k miles. With only 41k, I feel like I should be able to settle on selling it for $7k and have the buyer be happy with the price and condition of the car along with an opportunity for it to perhaps increase in value in the future like Rich mentioned above.

Or if I hang onto it for 10 years, my daughter will have an opportunity to learn stick and have a fun little car to take to high school!

For a D16 Del Sol I think $7k would be a stretch, that's EM1 Si pricing. If it was a Del Sol Vtec with the B16 then you'd definitely be able to snag $7k-ish IF the body was minty.

Yea, a DelSol Vtec (the twincam B16), I can see grabbing over 6.

I don't see a regular SI car, fetching north of 5 for years still, even if it was immaculate and low mileage. I would say if you want to consider this thing as an investment, you should probably get a CarFax to validate the mileage, as these clusters are VERY easy to roll.

Keep in mind, these cars were barely over $10,000 brand new IIRC.

Now that I'm done raining on the parade, I'm SUUUUUPER jealous and want this thing.

I'd want it in the condition it's in so I wouldn't feel bad about using it as a daily. If it was minty minty it would suck There was a 7k mile Vtec model on HT last year that was insanely minty. Like museum minty.

Oh, most certainly, the VTEC trim is the unicorn that will be worth the most. Those are difficult to find. I've been following the Del Sol page for a bit, and a few of the Si's have gone for $6k already with more miles over the past year. If I list it for $7k, then I can avoid the time wasting kids that would only offer $4k. Ideally, I run across a Del Sol fanatic that needs the car, but that's a perfect situation and not likely. But that won't be for a few weeks/months anyway.

Based on the condition and the Autocheck Vehicle History Report that I have on it, there aren't any redflags to suspect the odometer was rolled on it. But that's a good point to consider to assure the next owner whom I'll give the Autocheck to also.

The MSRP for the 1994 Del Sol Si was $16450 and the S was at $14450.

A few dings and scratches on a daily definitely make you not feel as bad when it gets a new scratch or ding. And it makes a little less likely to get noticed and stolen.
