So the CR-Z got totaled, and I bought something totally different.

Hi all. CR-Z was totaled when I got run off the road and onto a median, causing frame damage and cracking the hybrid motor. Lame.

So the new car is a 2005 Subaru Forester 2.5XT, 5MT. I got it back in April and I've got the build mostly sorted out now. Super clean but it had some engine issues, so I said fuckit and built a new EJ25 shortblock. I've loved these things since I was a teenager, and finding one with a stick is tough so I didn't want to pass up the opportunity. It's got some STI bits, upgraded oil pick-up, etc... and it's running on the stock turbo. Threw in a new stage 1 clutch, new shifter bushings, working on getting coilovers and an RSB installed and it's coming together nicely. Here are some pics.

So I went from a two-seater, SOHC hybrid with a CVT running 16's getting 40mpg, to a station wagon powered by a DOHC turbo'd flat four, with a 5 speed manual trans running 13's and getting 20mpg. So far I'm not regretting it.

The symmetrical awd will serve you well. It's been proven ad nausem that the CR-Z has something like a 90/10 front/rear drive ratio at best. Especially out here. Be prepared to not have a good excuse as to why you can't make it to work in the snow.

It was a CRZ as in, the two seater hybrid (no awd at all), and mine was lowered so yeah snow was not fun.

This thing is a beast compared to it!
