I found a 2014 Jetta SE 1.8tsi with a manual transmission, Connectivity Package, and 10,000 miles at Carmax a couple weeks ago for a price that I couldn't pass up ($13,690). Being a buyer has some advantages... :) So I traded in my 2010 Sportwagen 2.5 for it. The Sportwagen was great, but I love having a turbo again.

So far, I've added a Hotchkis rear sway bar to dial out some understeer and flatten the cornering. A Neuspeed CAI gives a little more blow-off sound. I debadged it and used some Anthracite gray plastidip on the VW emblems. The 16" snow tires will give way to my 18" Audi RS4 replica wheels in the spring. And the group tint buy is coming at just the right time to darken out those windows.

APR makes a great stage 1 tune on 93 octane that will push it up to 245 hp and 290 tq (stock on 87 octane is rated at 170 hp and 184 tq). I'll likely do that when their annual spring sale goes into effect. APR 1.8 TSI Generation 3 ECU Upgrade

The gearing is really long for mpg, and I can take 2nd gear up to nearly 70mph. 4th and 5th are both overdrives, so I've been getting 38-39 mpg on highway drives on 87 octane. Mixed city driving has been 28-32 mpg.

It still has a hard plastic interior (they improved it for 2015), but that doesn't bother me once I realized how infrequently I touch the dash. It rides and handles well, and is fairly quick in stock form. Still, I'm looking forward to the tune and probably an upgraded clutch at some point after that. :)

I kinda like that it'll be a bit of a sleeper. Looking like a regular Jetta or TDI, instead of a GLI (even though the GLI is still fairly subtle). With the tune, I *should* be able to mostly hang with other stock sport compacts (GLI, GTI, FoST,FiST, MS3, Si, BRZ/FRS) in a straight line.

I was also impressed with how much room is in the back seat and trunk. It makes for a great daily driver with just enough fun to keep me entertained. :)

Awesome! I've been really impressed with the new 1.8Ts from what I've been reading so far. Seems like they're really not far behind the 2.0T in terms of power potential, yet they return stellar MPGs. I'd love to have one for a daily. With a few bolt ons, you can definitely surprise more than a few people haha. I'd bet with a tune, intake, downpipe, and a good driver, that would hit high 13s.

Awesome, very nice car for the money! I love my 13 TDI jetta, very impressive car for being so small and quality now for the money

I rented a 1.8t 14 down in FL and man, wish I would have waited to get the gas model like yours, save a bunch of money and still do the tune/mods and have a decent sleeper getting mid 30s mpg!

Ordered up some new parts that will be here before the weekend:

Dog bone mount (to minimize wheel hop),
Neuspeed Power Control Module (+35 to 40 hp/tq) instead of a full tune.
Neuspeed discharge pipe (+5 to 10 hp)

I also had the resonator removed ($40 at Velasquez Muffler) to give a little growl, and I blacked out the stock tailpipes with some Plastidip (rated to 312 degrees) until I decide if I want to do some other tips or not.

I installed the Power Control Module, and they extra boost at full throttle is about perfect. The tires now struggle for traction through 1st and 2nd, and 3rd is more useable for passing. I may do an APR tune down the road, but for now, this does the trick nicely for less money.

I also took the gray Plastidip off my RS4 replicas that I was using on the Sportwagen, and mounted them up on the Jetta today. Ready for summer, and ready for my window tints on Monday!
