figure id start a build thread. This little project is going to take me awhile i think but should be fun to do.
its a 51 Willys truck i picked up for a killer price of $400 and it was fairly complete. The bed is a bit rough but it will be getting modified to fit the frame so its not big deal. Its currently sitting on a 82 cutlass frame i bought from a friend for $150. I did have it on a mighty max frame but the build i had in my head the chassis just wouldnt be able to handle it. Plus the aftermarket is strong still for the gbody platform. I plan on going full aftermarket on the suspension, want this to handle and well as go. The power that will get the beast down the road is a 6.0 LQ9 motor i picked up for $500, I plan on doing a mild build and have a hp in mind id like to hit and doing some research it seems that i will be fairly easy to do. Im hoping to put a ford 8.8 rear end in the back as it seems to be the best back for the buck rear end without spending an arm and a leg on a 9 inch setup or a build 12 bold. The whole idea behind this is to be able to hop in turn the key point the nose in any direction and be able to go without the worry of being unreliable. Figure if I am going to build this I might as well build it with as much modern day stuff as i can to help make that goal a reality.
the cab at the moment is just sitting on the frame, i need to get it to the point of a roller and have the motor and trans in so I can get the final placement of the cab so it looks right. Hopefully this summer i can get it on the ground and start to do those mods.
picked up a set of 2 inch drop spindles from a friend over the weekend. will use these for mock up, I plan on doing the 2wd blazer spindle and brake conversion.
