Paint By Number Mini Cooper

What started as a simple repaint on the Mini has basically turned into a full resto with custom body work, shaved fenders and molding, full chrome delete, painted stripes, and some other goodies. Finally ended up deciding on GM Evoke Grey Pearl (as seen on Ponti G8) with a BMW PPG metallic clear coat. Got the first look at it since I was out to draw out all the design planning, thought I'd post up some progress pics, because fuck it- why not.
So far, most of the chrome is done, and it's ready to be sanded down for paint.

Awesome. My boss just picked up an R56 last week and it definitely seems like a fun car.

It's going from an R53 to a (kinda) R56, it's NA right now, trading the S/C out for a turbo, but decided to get the body taken care of first. I'm especially stoked for the beefy stripes that will be painted on, replacing the dinky vinyls it had before.

18g with a custom manifold, it's gonna take a little nigrigging, but it's gonna be awesome once it's done. I originally intended to do a twin charge setup, with a small turbo, but the casing on the S/C is done, so that scrapped that idea...so said fuck it, and going with a turbo that's a decent size for the engine.

Oh that's very nice. I got a good look at my bosses car today and I gotta say, that's one tiny turbo they cram in there.

Yeah, the R56 has a single BMW 1 series turbo, little bitty pop can. It's cute and all, but not what I'm looking for. The Mini was shredding tires from first till 2/3 through second, and barking into 3rd. It's not a big power V8, but it was good and violent with the supercharger. I expect a lot more from the turbo, but gotta get the body done before I can start pulling the engine apart again.

Haha thanks, I think. Should have some more progress pics available soon. Itching to get her back and start doing the guts stuff, but the paint is going to cure for a week in a heated tent before the next step, same for the clearcoat. No hurry, I'm looking to end up with a show and go car, so patience is the game plan.
