Ballin' on a Budget. Budget Street/ Road Course E36

So yeah, fuckin around at Devo on CL last night "loosely" looking for a new car as a project. We came across this gem. 1993 BMW 325i. First year e36, 5-speed, 3.15 rear with LSD. Ended up taking the guy down from $1,300 to $950 (settled the last $50 on a coin flip) because it was all sorts of fucked in the front end suspension. My main goal is to make the car road competition ready by spring, and stretch every dollar in the process. I will list every modification and price along the way. I will update this thread with prices. Got it to the shop, and went head first into it this morning.

-Pass. Lower ball joint was FUCKED. $18.00
-Passanger front strut was "fucked"....... bolt ended up being loose. FREE.
-Battery was tired. Replaced with Interstate. $100
-Bottom rockers were faded and had lots of surface rust and a few holes. Patched them ans sprayed with rhino line. $16.88
-Installed Performance chip in ECU. Adds a bit more fuel and raises rev limiter 500rpm's. FREE
-Installed new wheels as fronts were bent to shit and rears leak air. ON LOAN UNTIL I GET KOSEI K1's.
-Headlight was out. Found to be fuse. Had spare in fuse box. FREE.
-Taillight was out. Found to be bad connection. Lubed with dielectrode grease. FREE.
-Reverse light out. $1.83
-Modified exhaust with big ricer tip :fth: FREE

Today's total? $1085.68

Car now runs and drives smoothly. Front end is tight as can be.

Tomorrow I will be fixing the driver and passenger windows (dont move, but motors are operating.) Fixing stereo, and cleaning the hell out of the car.

just curious but whats the ring gear diameter on those two models? ones a larger housing/gear and the spline/axle hub pattern changes?

sweet budget project, might i suggest keeping a running tally of the cost per mile?

you should ride in the intrepid, i dont put anything into it and you can barely tell hahaha

i think im at 5 cents per mile including the purchase price

Well, Ive been tinkering with this more as time allows. Fixed the front windows (guides were cracked) and put in door speakers (were not in doors but included with car :roflpicard: ) Getting the windows tintes this week, along witb a gauge cluster and wiper transmission. Also snagging a head unit from a friend for free. It's older, but it's got AM/FM, is 4x50 and has a CD player and AUX.... good enough for me.

Replaced the gauge cluster tonight. Tach was off (from a 318), voltage regulator was bad and the trip reset button were fucked. Seriously easiest replacement ever. Took a grand total of 7 minutes.

Also, decided to daily it through winter so I'm grabbing a set of snows and steelies tomorrow.

The fun begins...

I've been waiting to accumulate money and parts for a month or so, and really have done nothing to the car since the first of the year. I started by gutting the car completely and removing all the spray in sound deadening. Roughly 200#'s are out, putting it right under 3,000#'s.

Every where there is "dirty" bare metal is where there was sound deadening material. Between the trunk and cabin I took almost 50#'s out solely in deadening.

I ordered my first round of parts tonight, with more coming soon.

-AKG Front Subframe, rear sway and RTAB reinforcement plates
-OEM M3 Rear Subframe plates
-AKG Poly motor/trans mounts
-AKG Adj. front sway stabilizer set
-AKG Diff. mount bushings
-AKG front control arm bushing set
-AKG rear subframe bushing set
-AKG rear trailing arm bushings

All the bushings are 75D Polyurethane. Didn't want to go full aluminum, so this was one step down from true solid bushings.

Finally figured out and purchased my brake setup for the time being.

-Hawk HP+ pads
-Auto Zone lifetime warranty stock rotors.
-SS lines front and rear.

I'm going to throw the brakes on tonight, I'll snap some pictures.
