Default Any coyote hunters here?

I've been interested in doing some Coyote hunting, but don't know anyone else that does it.

I don't know what the rules are now but years ago coyote's and bobcats were open shoot during deer firearm season. I think bobcats still are today but not sure on coyote's.

I can't hunt coyote's, we shot one years ago and it yelped like a dog. From that point forward I can't bring myself to shoot one.

They are all over Mount Prospect. Wish we were allowed to shoot them!

My brother in law is the same way. They live on a few acres in Indiana and have chickens...and a coyote was getting their chickens. He setup on the deck, and finally shot it. He really felt bad and had to build himself up to do it, because he said the same thing you did from previous experience hunting them.

Dude gets deer with bows...but can't shoot a damn coyote!

pretty sure you have to be hunting to open shoot them, cant just pull out the 12G and take them out right there in the middle of the block.

but liek said above, im 99% sure they are no limit no tag needed.

I'm just like your BiL then, being a dog lover coyote's are just too similar. My mind may change if I had farm animals that were getting attacked but if I'm out deer hunting you rarely see them.

Correct, there is not limit or tag I just don't know what recent regulations are on when and where it's permitted. Most regulations in IL state if your hunting with a firearm you have to be xx number of yards from a road or property line and you need to have xx number of acres to hunt on your own land. Public land has it's own restrictions of what can be hunted and where/when.

I talked to DNR a few weeks back and they always make it a point to say if you see a bobcat kill it. Didn't say anything about coyote's and I didn't ask.

I know they do it in the UP. We were out in the bush on our snowmobiles years ago and came across a sled stopped in the middle of nowhere with footprints leading away. We followed them and came upon a guy crawling into some down trees in full snow camo and a big ass white rifle. He wasn't too happy we rolled through and told us to leave... which we did.

There's no tag or limit for IL along with a season. It's game on 24/7 as long as you have a hunting license.

Legally you need a tag for bobcats

It's the same for WI, a small game hunting license is needed and for non-resident's they need to have a furbearer license to hunt them here.
