Default Good Guys with Guns Stop Georgia Escaped Killers

Police have been looking for a pair of escaped convicts who killed two guards during their escape from a Georgia prison bus. The reward for these killers kept climbing this past week and reached $130,000.

The fugitives attempted to steal a Tennessee homeowner's car and he and a neighbor held them at gunpoint until police came to get them.

Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Bill Miller said late Thursday that the homeowner caught Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose trying to steal his vehicle.

Miller says the escaped Georgia inmates had crashed a car while being chased by law enforcement and fled on foot into woods along Interstate 24 near the rural community of Christiana.

Miller says something alerted the homeowner that people were outside his home and he saw the men trying to steal his vehicle. The trooper says the homeowner held the two at gunpoint with a neighbor he called until the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department could get there to arrest them.

Surprised they were taken alive. Thought for sure they'd fight to the death before going back to prison.

Now if these scumbags had just gotten up and started walking away, technically, the guys holding the guns wouldn't be able to shoot them. Just the threat of getting shot must have been enough.

Wow, there's a LOT more too this story. Cops were chasing the bad guys and the bad guys crashed. They, then, ran to a house where the homeowner had loaded up his family and was trying to get away. The family had multiple, loaded guns in the car. No word on whether they pulled them. The criminals lay down, even getting up once to get a drink from the hose, and waited for the cops to arrive. So weird. It's like the criminals decided to give up which may have saved this families' lives. (or they could have killed the bad guys. They were armed and the bad guys left their guns in the crashed, hijacked car.)

The hero Tennessee homeowner who deputies say helped nab two escaped inmates wanted in the killings of two prison guards says it was divine intervention that helped him.

“I realized I had two ex-cons wanted for murder who had just shot at law enforcement who had nothing to lose and for some reason they surrendered and laid down on the concrete in my driveway,” Patrick Hale, 35, of Christiana, said Friday. “If that doesn't make you believe in Jesus Christ, I don't know what does.”

Hale told a news conference that he heard Thursday that escapees Donnie Rowe, 43, and Ricky Dubose, 24, were in the area he got his guns ready.

“I loaded every weapon I could in my house to be prepared in the event they needed to be used,” he said, according to Fox 17 Nashville.

Moments later he saw them climb a barbed wire fence and approach his home in rural area in southern Tennessee.

“I prayed like I had never prayed,” he said.

He said he then called 911 and “grabbed my sweet little daughter.”

He thought of running back in the house to hide in a panic room. Instead he decided to leave.

"We got in the car and backed up quick only to find the gentlemen had been running and got much closer to my house," Hale said, according to the Tennessean. "They began to take off their shirts and wave them at us as if to slow us down."

He thinks they may have thought his vehicle belonged to law enforcement.
