Default Aperture Size?

I have a question on precision and aperture size. I am using my AR-15 (rifle length gas block sight, MBUS front) and I am having horizontal stringing. I'm willing to say it's likely that it's the shooter, but am wanting to be sure.

There's quite a bit of white space for the post size compared to the actual opening in even the fine aperture. Is it plausible that it's too coarse for 25YD and that's why it's stringing/my technique isn't good for the aperture size I have? Am I expecting too much precision from these iron sights and should I be expecting "combat precision" only?
