To those who replaced your window motor...

Replaced the window motor on the trans am. Anyone who did this before, what did you use to reattach the window motor to the door? I have rivets that fit but cannot locate a rivet gun big enough to use to install the rivets.

We used button head bolts on my friends firebird. Came in handy the next time around; no need to drill anything

Well teh two holes I Used button head bolts but the other two I can slide the bolts through but I can't get anything on the back side cause there's not enough room plus I got big hands lol
only the rivet fits I just have a hardtime locating a gun for the bigger rivets

you know what they say about guys with big hands

But I did get a hold of my neighbor who is a bodyman and he's got one at the shop and he will bring home the gun tonight!

I used a 2-3inch flat head bolt/screw, thread the nut by hand, then when final tightening you can use a wrench on the nut, and vise-grips on the exposed threads on the bolt. When your done tightening, cut/break off the excess length

(this was in a different car, but it should work in any rivet on window motor)

Check out the auto parts stores and see if they have a rivet gun that large to lend out. You can also just swing by a body shop with the car and slip a guy $5 to pop them in.

Just went to ace and bought some bolts and put them in with blue locktite. Made it easier the second time I had to replace my friends window motor.

I replaced both of them in my old car and both times I bought motors they came with new bolts/nuts/washers to put in place of the rivets.

That's just sugarcoating on how much it is a pita. Lol
I know I could have locktite the bolts but I would just rather have them be riveted and not worry about the bolts coming undone. Shit happens! Lol

Welcome to owning an F body, it helps for a bit but it'll happen again in time to the new one.

Yea mine started doing that, and only rolled half way down slowly. Then I had a hard time getting it up and then I stopped using it. And then it just stopped working all together. So i got pissed after not being able to use my window for a year

Same damn thing with Thunderbirds as well... generally the motors just explode but the gears can fail as well.

Mine is held in a 'jesus clip' for fast replacement next time. I drilled out the rivet.

My pass window (on top of being REALLY SLOW) would over heat or something and then the motor would stop moving at all until I let it rest a bit.

Probably time to take care of it.

There's some kinda booster harness or something for these too IIRC...
