LS2 GTO Guys - Headers

Dad wants Headers for the goat and I have done some reading on them. He doesn't want to spend a lot so it is either shortys or PaceSetters. The shortys are pretty self explanatory as they bolt right up but...

He is going to keep the Cats so the Pacesetters would need to be custom in some way. Does anyone know anything or know of anyone that did that? I know you can either add cats to the mid pipe they sell or some how fab the existing to work with those headers??

I have not been able to find a clear cut answer so I am guessing I should recommend he get shortys, but then again I don't know that they are even worth it as they are not good for very much in the gains department.

Long tubes would be better gains up top. The paceshitters wouldnt be bad since they are cheap, and the car is stored for the winter, so no rusting.

I would stay away for shorties, they are not worth the money. Go with the pacesetters, if there is any modifications that need to be made I can do them.

I just well almost finished installing Pacesetter LT with catless mids on my GTO. Pacesetters are not bad if you get the Jetcoated ones. Good bang for your buck on them..
Outside PS you are gonna drop some coin. Look out on the boards for used Kooks or something along those lines/

what we have done for these setups is take reducers from 3" and weld them in a line till you get to the desired size. It works great... looks gheto but works great. We have done quite a few of them, Colin is also a great welder!

No. What I did was ordered up the catless mids with it. Those clamp onto the LT's and then you have a flange that will hook it up to the stock catback or aftermarket one if you order one too.
I could be wrong but i don't think you can use the stock mids with the the LT's.

I need to have the cats intact... That is the key here, I understand how to use the standard mid pipe but being that it is catless I cannot use the configuration as is.

While the Kooks are obviously nice, the price is just too high, even on sale. They want like 1500 bucks!

Are the cats right off the manifolds or more under the car? I'd think they could just be added right after the longtubes.

That is the problem I don't remember, and the car is in storage, but I believe they are right off the manifolds.

Get a reducer with a 3"id to slip over the pacesetter. Weld another reducers to that untill you reach the desired diameter. The stock cat will then have the correct bend to meet with the cat. What year GTO is this?

shortys are ftl. pointless. why do you need Lt with cats? is it a emssions issue, cause i passed with no cats. I had 262 fix that for me.

To recap shorties are a waste and LTs are either a lot of money or take an unknown amount of custom fitting.

Theoretically nothing, and trust me I have thought about going that route... Only catch is I would need to tune out the cat code.

Then I would have to spend money on getting the tune. I don't make enough money to afford all that.
