Default Prepper go!

Tonight was my first go at canning. My ultimate goal is to get comfortable enough doing it that I can can meat.

Looks good dude! Did you just use a basic canning spice mix? Or anything custom?

The jar of sliced cucumbers is a "bagged" mix. Followed directions to the T.

The other 3 are just use the brine and get a feel for it with using my own mix of spices.

One can is Mustard seed, dill, jalapeno.
2nd is Dill, sugar, jalapeno and garlic.
3rd is mustard seed, dil, jalapeno and garlic.

Everything besides the mustard seed I grew.

Awesome. You won't be disappointed with those combos. Sounds like a good start to experiment with spice mixes. I am a fan of garlic, so I have just doubled the amount some recipes called for in the past.

I've done some canning and have good luck with my jalapeno and carrots. They don't last long around the house.

I wanna be able to can normal stuff like carrots beans and so on. And not having to pickle them. So I need to buy a pressure cooker.

ha i started a thread asking who did this no responses lol..

How log do you guys wait before eating?

Mushrooms are good. I got about 4 jars of pickles in fridge step sister made. So want to learn to do it myself.

Also the garage sale sites on FB are good places to pick up jars. I jut picked up 30+ jars for $15 lol All different sizes..

I couldn't keep the canned stuff longer than 6 months do to the demand but they were great the whole time. They'd probably have a shelf life of at least a year easily. The most important thing is sanitation just like in home brewing. That will make or break your experience. It's pretty easy though

How do you can the carrots and onions? Is it just the contents with water or do you add oil of some type?

Wouldnt jerked beef last longer than canned? Not saying for sure, I was just wondering. Wouldnt jerking be easier as well?

I'm not sure the way he did it. But there's two way, pickle or normal canning. To just do normal carrots they have to be done in a PSI cooker.
