Those prepackaged microwave popcorn pouches cost a lot. Up to $3.50 per lb. of popcorn. Plus, microwaving them makes your entire house stink like... well, something that's not popcorn.
I decided to go old school. I bought a container of popcorn kernels in bulk and some plain paper lunch bags. I put a little less than half a cup of kernels in a bag and double folded the top. Then I put it upright in the microwave. 2-3 minutes cooking time (until you have only 1 or 2 kernels popping each second. NO OIL NECESSARY. Once the popcorn is cooked, add your favorite toppings. I like a couple tablespoons of melted butter and some salt.
Tastes just as good or better than the packaged stuff and your house won't smell when you finish. Cost? About $.50 a lb.
