Talking 7/25 & 26 BIG Sycamore shows

SYCAMORE Slick back your hair and don your black leather jacket for the 10th annual Turning Back Time Weekend and Glen "Fizz" Ehrler Memorial Car Show in downtown Sycamore this weekend.

Chuck Criswell, owner of Chuck's Auto Center on DeKalb Avenue, is the event's founder. Ehrler owned a repair shop in town and was interested in old cars, he said. The scholarship was established in honor of the well-known businessman.

"I started this 10 years ago," Criswell said. "It's a lot of work, but I'm proud of it."

Every year, the event has donated to the "Fizz" Ehrler scholarship fund, the Sycamore food pantry and the Sycamore Police Department. The event runs from Friday to Sunday.

For the first time, there will be a silent auction to raise money for cancer victims and cancer research.

"My staff and helpers will all wear pink shirts," Criswell said. "Pink shirts will also be on sale."

The Sycamore Park District is sponsoring Friday's events. The film "Back to the Future" will be shown beginning at dusk at the corner of Somonauk and Elm streets. There also will be children's activities, pizza, popcorn and a display of DeLorean cars.

Cruise Night, sponsored by the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Somonauk and Elm streets.
Vintage Vinyl will perform live music. There also will be a 1950s costume contest, scavenger hunt, children's games, remote-control car races, a lip-syncing contest, swing dance competition and a performance by the Northern Illinois University Dance Center.

In addition to a beer garden, local vendors will sell refreshments.

The classic car cruise, presented by Auto Meter of Sycamore, will begin at 5:30 p.m. It will travel through both Sycamore and DeKalb.

Criswell said there should be 800 to 1,000 cars along Main Street on Sunday.
Registration will be from 8 a.m. to noon. Dash plaques will be given to the first 800 vehicles. Classic car awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m.

A motorcycle show on California Street is being sponsored by Hink's Bar %26 Grill.

Food vendors will include local restaurants, Kiwanis clubs and Boy Scout groups. The Beth Fowler School of Dance from Genoa will present a 1950s dance demonstration.
