Some decent deals there...

I was looking at a whole house one back when I had a reef tank just in case there was a long power outage but never pulled the trigger.

I was talking to the wife about picking up a generator for our more adventurous glamping trips. Good deals.

No power fluctuation on an inverter generator.
On a regular generator when the rpm fluctuates so does the output.

Thanks for posting this. Was in the market for a generator for when we lose power to run my fridge and sump pump. My current generator started taking a shit last year.
Just picked up the gas powered 4000 watt in this special.

Would be nice to do a whole house generator, with an automatic transfer switch, and maybe even a little UPS to pick up the load between, but nothing in my house is that important.

Yeah the only thing I'm worried about is the sump pump. I plan on having it on a UPS and have a new spare available and possibly a generator just in case.

No basement, so no sumps for me. Which is nice in a way. Sucks not having the extra space with a basement, but peace of mind is also nice not having to worry about flooding.

Aside from the fridge, there's really nothing I'd want to keep up. And even then, I never usually keep that much in my fridge that's perishable...Nothing a cooler with ice wouldn't solve.

Always wanted a whole house generator but when I lived in Elgin, I didn't need it. I lived on the same power grid as the casino and since the casino has a contract with electric company, they must have power up within a certain amount of time after a power outage.

Now that I live in Hampshire, I've seen one power outage that lasted about 30 minutes, and a couple brief less than 5 minute outages.

Whole house generator, meh. How often do you lose power more than a few hours and how many times a year? Maybe once if that. A portable is plenty to handle a sump pump, or just have a battery backup. Fridge+ power outage=fire up the grill and cook all your meat and drink your beer really fast.

This^

We just installed a dual sump pump system with battery backup. That's really all you need. Especially since most of us are now on the comed smart grid power outages are nothing like they used to be.

Hell years ago my parents lost power for 3 days after a major storm. Went out and spent a ton on a huge generator. Guess what...... used it 2 times since it was purchased.

Since we've moved in we lost power due to vehicles striking utility poles 2 times in a year. Apparently it also happened a few months before we moved in as well. I do worry about losing power for long periods of time because of this

if thats worth spending probably $5k on a generator install...

I'll suffer through not having heat/ac and throwing some food out of my fridge, spend a night or two in a hotel and eating out.

we don't live in a third world country, in the literal sticks 100s of miles from a highway or help, or in a natural disaster prone area.
