wat.

you do realize a sled can hold one person or two if you are a fan of the butt to nut riding right?
I am more so talking, cost to buy, repairs, storage, cleaning, insurance etc.

yeah if you want to compare a outboard motor vs snowmobile engine pending no repairs nessary yes costs of oil, plugs, filters etc might be around the same.

Just don't go telling EAGLE a toon will cost him the same as a sled

A trailer full of sleds, probably.

I'd buy an old cheap boat and give it a try for a season, I have less than 15k into both of my boats combined, I boat several days a week all summer so it's worth the slight investment and we trailer my go fast boat to Clinton lake several times a summer for camping trips, If you can park a trailer boat in your driveway I'd start with a bow rider and just trailer it around for a year until you find an area you really like

Dammit, Brett! You're not helping me here... I'm relatively close to the chain, so I'd definitely be going there most often.

I put like 2 sets of plugs a year into my outboard and maybe 2-3 gallons of oil, it is oil injected so there is no mixing, change the gear lube once and that's all the maintenance I do to it every year

need a cobalt with trim full out to boat there or your hull will dissolve when it hits the water. sailboats are safe too. I hear waverunners instantly sink @PANDA

i went through both of my boats from top to bottom when I bought them so maintence is normally filters gear lube and gas for the year, I do a tune up every 3 years on my powerplay, and this year it's getting a 20 dollar carb rebuild, if you do the work your self it's not that expensive to trailer if you have a reasonably sized boat

this.

and it would.

@Eagle works on his own shit... winterization is 0 dollars with that evinrude powered manitou i posted... that boat doesn't even need an oil change

cleaning? come on panda... clean your own shit.

no spark plugs or any service for 500 hours

storage for my 27' 9'6" wide well craft was around $500 for the year.

if i had a trailer, i could have gotten it for FAR less. getting a toon shrinkwrapped and stored outside is plenty fine for it which is maybe $400 for the entire winter.

Blue Walmart tap is plenty nice for a toon, I'm lucky I have a big yard so I just added a big gravel pad and set the toon on that all winter

the manitou i posted would be less in maintenance work and cost than 2-3 sleds and enclosed trailer

Yeah, if I had a place I could keep it at the house or somewhere on the cheap, it wouldn't be bad. Sled trailer already costs me $600/yr to store and I don't even like that!

I'm into too many hobbies right now to really consider another. I'd have to get out of something to do boats... and even then I question how often I'd use it.

the only way you'd use it frequently enough is if you kept it in the water @Eagle.

in the water is the only way to go to make a boat worthwhile in a seasonal location IMO. unless it's a fishing boat. it's so much expense, you need to get out there often and enjoy it

Agreed. Plus the time consumed moving the trailer in and out constantly, starring in countless launch ramp blunder videos.... aint nobody got time fo dat.

yep. loading unloading, fighting with 100 people trying to do the same thing, someone competent to drive the boat or trailer, unpack the boat and clean when you're done, etc. half the day is just bullshit to get out for a few hours

i try to make it look as effortless as possible... when you're trying to get someone to buy a boat, who has never boated before, you want that part to be done so quickly and going that they don't even realize it's an issue for some people

@Eagle's way to boat the chain that would make it make sense to @Yaj Yak

buy this.

2008 22' Manitou Triple Tube Pontoon

buy $1800-$2000 bunk trailer.

keep it at d's marine, vickies place, or miller's dream marine, right in mchenry 12-15 minutes from your home for probably $1000-1500 for the whole season.

take your family, friends, and other people out for rides and summer fun all year, with a 20 minute from your door to going boating experience.

smile a lot. swim in the majestic waters of pistakee lake, drink a few beers, wave at @Yaj Yak, @PANDA, @OffshoreDrilling, @JeffsLightning,and @CobraSki03 as we all enjoy the chain. put gas in the boat that you bring from home, or pump into it at one of the many chain marinas. add some brp oil maybe 1 or 2 times a year.

at the end october, pull it out and push the button on the throttle that says "winterize"

cover the boat and park it somewhere where a grizzly bear won't hurt it with something on top of it that won't let the carpet get too snowy.

now forget you own said boat until april/may/60* outside.

go get boat, put boat back in water and tie it back up and go back to step one.

the end.
