Default Do any of you have or have you ridden the crf450l

Thoughts, Iíve been looking at a dual sport bike for a couple years, Iíve had older dual sport bikes and crotch rockets, I want something capable for my 1-2 times a year Iíll off road it but fast enough to be fun

How tall are you? With only going offroad twice a year I would think about getting an xr650. Its taller and heavier but if your using it mainly on the street wouldnt the bigger motor do better?

I’m willing to bet the 450 makes as much if not more power than the 650 since it’s more performance oriented, the the single cylinder 650 bikes are generally heavy dogs

I’m 6’ even, from what I was reading the 450l it tall it’s basically as close to a race bike as you can legally buy for the road without spending 15k on something more “high end”

I've heard it's good but super restricted in stock form. I'm assuming because of emissions. Uncork it and enjoy

For the money go KTM/Husky. Look at Beta, Gas Gas, and Sherco as well. Way lighter, more capable. I got my 18 KTM 500 EXC-F for $100 more then they want for the 450L.

They are all corked up from the factory if they are street legal. Be prepared to spend some money to uncork them. Not even sure if there are any tuning options for the 450L yet.

I already have mine desmogged, Vortex ECU, pulled the air box reeds, and threw a FMF titanium pipe on. Bike is a MONSTER now!!!

Beta 300rr. What could be cooler than a 300cc street-legal 2-smoke?

I want one, but I'm having a hard time blowing $9500 on something I'm going to beat up in the woods.

It looks like it’s about 30lbs lighter than the 450 and 15ish hp more, sounds like more fun lol

How about the ktm 690 husky 701, I was hoping to go check some bikes out this week but got called out to work last night and tonight so maybe next week, there’s a place in Springfield that sells gas gas, husky, ktm and some other stuff I may check out, I have been watching reviews non stop on all of them seems like the bigger bikes are more maintenance friendly with 6000 mile oil changes rather than 15 hour like the 500 or 600 mile like the 450l

More maintenance friendly but quite a bit heavier. If you are going to do more street or railroad grade they would be a better choice. Tighter twisty trails you are better off with the 450/500

Itís going to be mostly street to be honest, I just want to ability to off-road with it so itís more versatile

I did a little research on the 450l and it looks like a great unit. Honda has really raised the bar on their MX line up in the last couple years. Price seems pretty decent. If I were to ever buy a dual sport it would be the L but that's not say much. I'm a huge Honda swinger.

I've always been a Honda guy too, but now own all European bikes....lol It's the weight and price that turns me off of the 450L. The street legal 500 EXC-F weighs the same as the Honda 450R motocross bike. And 40 some lbs less then the 450L.

Maintenance on the 500 is not that bad. Oil changes are easy. The 500 is a true dirt bike with a plate. The 690/701 is more suited for street/light off road.

Thatís sort of what has me turned onto it, Iím going to off-road a few times a year the rest will be street miles, and it seems the 701 is more comfortable for street use, itís also only 50lbs more than the 450l but 30 hp more to make up for it

May want to check out the yamaha T7 as well. It's a 2020 bike though so not sure what your time frame is. Based on euro pricing it will most likely undercut the 701 and 690.
