Default Chicago Boat Show 2017

Went to the boat show yesterday evening. I didn't do much walking around because my Dad and I had business to take care of. But I am impressed by this years offerings. Alot of manufacturers and dealers brought out some really cool shit. Big cruisers are slowly coming back to the boat show and even a few go fast boats. Will be going back Saturday to enjoy more of the show. If you have a chance see if you can make it out.

i also think what's insane, is the "tiny house" movement.

people spend 60-80k on something that isn't really nice to trailer, and is half the length as some of these campers.

the inside of some of these campers is RIDICULOUS too... not even motorhomes, but bumper-pull campers.

$39k

granted, i dont know ANYTHING about these, and what's quality, and what isn't... but shit.

$39k buys a lot of hotel rooms and you don't have to tow them

During the summer these tiny houses were across the street from my work.

https://www.timeout.com/chicago/blog...is-week-080816

Base price $60,000 for a 20ft tiny house. Yeah you can buy a ballin ass camper if you want to live that life.

https://clotheslinetinyhomes.com/faqs/why-not-an-rv

Quote:
Aesthetics… RV’s have thin walls and are made out of lightweight, often inexpensive materials. We wanted to live in a tiny house because it feels like a real home: solid, spacious, well built – high ceilings. We didn’t want to feel like we were on an interminable camping trip….
Weather and Comfort… Our tiny home is well insulated to withstand winter and summer temperatures. In an RV we would have to run the heater or A/C constantly to be comfortable in winter or summer.
Health… when we viewed RV’s we noticed the unmistakable odor of plastics and chemicals throughout the interior. We wanted to live in a tiny house because we wouldn’t surround ourselves by man-made toxic materials.
Mobility… If you want to move your house every couple weeks, then an RV would definitely be better for you. They are designed to be moved: lightweight and aerodynamic. We did not need that much mobility. We envisioned ourselves moving the home maybe once or twice a year so building on wheels allows us to avoid zoning code restrictions and have a beautiful home with the flexibility we need.

Tiny houses are for liberal hippies. Or people that don't know what a camper is.

Shit I bet when you option that 20ft Tiny house out its $80k. Ya know what kinda ballin ass camper you can buy for $80K?

You can probably buy a brand new 20ft camper for $19,999

I went yesterday, it always feels good to be around some boats as the seasons grows near. Seemed like there were alot more toons on display then last year, a buddy i was with has been tossing around the idea of a toon Vs a go fast. Having had the go "fast" for 4 full seasons going on to 5th, i would like to get a toon to have as well. Damn they are really nice. I dont know how much fun it would be to drive one, lounging and drinking a cold cocktail on one is where its at.

Why don't they just leave them on the trailer?

some of the boats on trailers are so high off the ground, they are tough to view like that... and that's if they even have a trailer for them.

Yea I was talking with a guy from Munson Ski and that is exactly it, not all the boats have trailers. They are making runs all day for weeks bringing boats in and out. Also the Manufactures like to build those platforms and place boats right on top of one another. Trailers would take up alot of room and real estate is at a premium at McCormick.

I'm more curious if any cities or villages will be changing ordinances and code to go along with this movement. I was looking into it and watching all these shows since realistically it's me and my dogs at the house, and two of my bedrooms are literally an office (I sit on my ass on the couch with an iPad), and a spare bedroom (that sits empty for years until a friend gets too drunk somewhere on occasion and crashes for the night.

The thing I like about the shows is the storage solutions they are able to come up with at times is universal and can be used in a lot of different situations.

The biggest issue was finding places to park them that allow you to stay there and be considered a residence.
