Well I'm tired of having to re-torque these because of the constant leaks. I had these so called professionally installed and from day one they leaked. I had another shop correct this situation but this only lasted about three months. So I went out and bought a cherry picker and me and my 15 year old son went and fixed it about three years ago. Everything was fine till about three weeks ago when I took the car out and it overheated and it started leaking again.

So this time I was done playing around. Me and my Daughter (with the a little help from my son) pulled the K-member off the car and got complete access to the headers to do them right. Some of the shit I found really pissed me off. The 8 bolts that held the K-Member on were so loose my 15 year old daughter took all the bolts on one side off with NO EFFORT at all. My side was just as loose. You could actually see on the K-Member were it was moving and scraping at the connection points. Three of the header gaskets were leaking badly, and one was disintegrating and was 50% gone.

We put all new gaskets in, and so far got the K-member back on. I should have the rest back together tomorrow, BUT I got to say if it leaks again. FU%$ these things, I'm pulling these off and going back to stock manifolds.

ONE thing positive I can say is, I really cherish doing this work with my kids. I wouldn't want it any other way from now on. For this I am glad SO Called professional have there heads so far up there asses they can't do something this simple properly. Thank You For Fu%$ing up a simple install, so I can enjoy teaching a 15 year old to do a better job than you!!

Seriously though I really did enjoy teaching my kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i had the same issue when i had the mids... the individual gaskets per tube is a joke and they always blow out. you should have picked up a set of mac lts and no more worries.

on a side note , when mine blew out i just put stock gaskets on and used a ton of high temp scilicone. no more leaks:D

but they were only on for about two months , when i decided to switch to lts

Thats cool as hell that your kids like to help work on the car with you. What kind of bottle jack/jackstands are those? Never seen them before.

I got those from Menards, $39.95 each. They work great, and will put the car about 20" off the ground when you use all 4. These are also the first stands I've owned that don't leave any marks on my black top driveway. No matter how much weight is on them.

The only problem I didn't like was the jack has a bolt that holds the bottom of the bottle on and the bottle moves too much. So I welded the bottom jack to the stand. Just when you weld it you must go slow and cool the jack so you don't damage it. Now they work perfect.

Sounds good I think I will have to pick a set of those up, I could see those come in handy.

The car is all back together and wow what a difference. What I thought might have been the dreaded tick, was in fact the headers. They must have been leaking the whole time since i had them installed 5 years ago, than had them supposedly fixed 4 years ago, then tried correcting them myself without removing the K-member 3 years ago.

The car no longer has a tick, so it must have been the exhaust. WOW does it sound good now.

Now let's see how long it lasts.

Most places when the instal your new headers dont take the time to clean around your exhaust ports on the head, and they just slap on the gasket and call it a day. You must clean these very important. I know alot of people do headers without removing the kemember, but from my experience this is the only way I d ever do mine. It made it much easier.

No offense at all to you, but bassani was not the greatest choice in headers. Dont get me wrong they make good stuff, but for some reason their headers just plain suck. I have mack on mine and have never had a problem.

Too many people on here have complained about their bassani headers leaking or not fitting good.

Kooks is also a great header but $$.

Mack is on the cheaper side but it works really well on the cobras.

I Agree After having Bassani's for 5 years, my opinion is they are a pain in the a#$!!!!!!!!

so you take the studs out?

I took them out and cleaned them all with a wire wheel. and then I took that wire wheel to all the exhaust ports on the head and cleaned up the gunk that has been accumulating from dirt and old gaskets. Then I bought new oem nuts and oem gasket and bolted the mac lts on and the rest is history. Not one leak.

I have a good friend Geoff that has tought me alot through the years. Little tips and tricks, wrong way and right way. :D
