I need exhaust advice and gear advice

i have a 99 cobra with mac o/r h-pipe and slp lm1 catback, the only thing is its to loud and it has a raspy sound from 2200-2900 rpm which im not a fan of, im assuming its because of the resonators, anyways i recieved an offer of flowmaster catback and $150 for my slp, what do you guys think?


im also looking to swap gears, whats a good swap a 4.10 or 3.90? its not a daily driver, and can anyone recommend a good installer that wont drain my wallet. thanks:dancenana:

also, if you are looking for good sounds with out being too loud and less raspy, go with DynoMax... My experience is that Flowmaster is a bit raspy too... and much louder than DynoMax.

the rasp is coming from the SLP cat back for sure, those tend to be really raspy.

mostly the rasp comes from using an x-pipe, i bet whatever u chose will be significantly less raspy then the slp's

I've called a couple of shops to have them install my gear. they told me 4:10 really isnt a gear you want to drive on the street. they told me either a 3:73 or a 3:90. What do u guys put in the 99 cobra not what do u hear.

i know i stated its not a daily driver but its not a drag car either, i ment that i just drive it around here and there(my nice day and weekend hobby car)

4.10 is pefect for these cars since the motors need to be spun harder than others to get to the powerband

I had 4.10's in my 03 Redfire and I enjoyed it everytime. Becomes more of a fun factor but, it hurt my wallet due to tearing my tires up to fast lol

i actually talked to niles at ss chasis(seemed to know alot about rear ends) he said i should stay away from the 4.10 cause its to much and ill have a hard time keeping the tires down in 1 and 2, i asked about the 3.90(motive pro 5.0) and he kinda made it sound like they havent been around long enough to be proven(from what i understand), he suggested a 3.73 but i dont know if thats going to be enough, what do you guys think.

I had 3.73's installed with my Torsen T2 differential.

It's still fun enough on the street and I don't need to shift into 5th gear at Road America when I hit 105mph

Do it! I have heard several 4v's with Flows+ORH and it sounds very nice. $150 in your pocket makes it a no-brainer. Put that cash towards a 4.56 gear, it's what your engine wants. I run a 4.30 in my boosted daily driver.

I fear the gear. Its nice that it puts it in the powerband, but whats the point if that powerband only lasts half a second?

I have 3.73's with a t56 and its not bad, wish i would have went 3.90 but my trans has a lot taller gearing.

3.73 or a 3.90 would be a nice gear with that 3650 trans. Its gots a real short 3.27 first so any bigger than a 3.90 and you're doing 15 mph at redline in first. Useless in my opinion.
