poping noise when hitting the rev limiter?

yesterday at the track I hit the rev limiter a couple of times and it made a pop when I hit it, first time was when I missed 4th and then on the last pass I launched almost at redline and Im assuming I hit it too.
I have hit the limiter before but all it did was bounce off it and nothing more, I know the computer shuts fuel off but why would pop? it wasnt that loud but enough for me to hear it?
is it bad?

I know but how is loading up on fuel when the the rev limiter shuts fuel off?

The SCT rev limiter probably doesn't cut fuel, to avoid leaning the car out on the limiter. Instead, it cuts spark, that's why it pops. It loads up on fuel, so when it DOES get spark, it's way rich so it pops.

+1. Hitting the limiter is a good way to blow the FRPS [fuel rail pressure sensor]. That would leave you stuck at the track until you beg, borrow or buy a new one for around $75.

I do not but when u say lean pop is because the computer shuts the fuel off?
Couple of people said the sct would shut ignition off rather than fuel?

Thanks, I got out on him pretty good but then by the 1/8 he caught me and passed me it was a good race tho

lean pop is usually through the intake... backfire is through the exhaust when there is excess fuel in the exhaust that was not fired on a previous cycle.

as most said, dont hit the rev limiter and you wont have a problem.
