I opened up my new (used) 03 IRS differential to have the cover plate modified for use on my car (94 RX7) and discovered that the Trac Loc is shot. The teeth on the spider gears are mangled pretty bad. So, it appears that I have to replace the Trac Loc. I am leaning towards the Detriot TrueTrac. The plan is to daily drive and occasional weekend road race or autocross.
I have a couple questions regarding changing out the diff. Since the diff is being replaced and not just rebuilt, does the ring and pinion need to be reshimmed as well which basically means a complete rebuild. Does the TrueTrac have the circlip grooves machined in for the IRS axles? Anything else that I am missing?
Aslo, I am not planning to do the rebuild myself, any suggestions on shops in the northwest suburbs?
Any help you guys could give would be appreciated.
