school me on banks for o2 sensors!!

i always thought :

bank 1 = drivers side
bank 2 = pass side

but the buttcrack at napa was trying to convince me it was:

bank 1 = before cats
bank 2 = after cats


on to my explaination... I had a bad cat on my car on the driver side... somewhat recently i got a trouble code saying possibly bad o2 sensor in bank 1 sensor 2...

wouldnt that mean drivers side after the cat...makes sense to me

if im wrong please school me!

Banks one is always the side with #1 cylinder. Ford Mustang Right side. Sensor One is front sensor 2 rear. B1S1 is right front. B2S1is left front. B1S2 is right rear. B2S2 is left rear. This is for a Ford v8 GMs are opposite.

Also left and right are determined by sitting in the seat not looking at it.

so your saying then that if bank one sensor 2 is bad its the one after the cat on the pass side correct?

Yes< Bank one sensor 2 is right rear (passenger). And Focus only has one bank. Bank is a row of cylinders. You need a V something to have 2 banks.
