Hey guys, currently I drive a 04 Focus SVT and was thinking about buying a 97 cobra, or that same generation, as my drag car. I just was wondering a bout a few things. To get 500hp what do i need to do? If forced induction is needed will i need to build up the engine too? Thanks

A 97' Cobra will need a blower at 10psi to get close to 500hp. It would make more around 440-470rwhp at 10psi. Any more than that wouldn't be safe. Even 10psi on a stock 97' motor is gonna be on borrowed time. It will only last so long. I suggest building the bottom end. Upgrading to C-heads and a 99-01' cobra intake manifold. Then you could easily see 600+ by just adding boost.

But if you want the car to go fast. You better start with the right suspension set-up, trans, and rear end. Then when you add power you can make good use of it. This is everyones biggest mistake even my own.
