oil cooler

Just got a 03 cobra 4 weeks ago and the night after i got it it spun a rod bearing and i was just wondering what everone thought about the oil cooler if i should replace it with something better have it cleaned out or just replaced it with a stock one. Called ford and they want $340.00 for a new one

There the same as mine. Let me know... I got mine for $270.00 after tax $248 before tax and had it the next day

hey just took my setup to the track, made 5 passes 13,xxx miles and knocks terribly,possibly rod bearing. What were you doin when you noticed.

yeah but i really want to know if its a real pain in the ass to take apart and clean or what im really just worried about putting dirt back into my new motor and the problem is im running out of money for the project

1) functionally, its not an oil cooler, its an oil pre-heater to get the oil warmed up sooner for better mileage and emissions

2) you're willing to spend all the money getting your engine fixed, only to put the oil 'cooler' back on that may or may not have parts of your damage left inside?

replace it. with stock pieces, if you dont feel like jumping through all the hoops that it takes to install a different one.

like i said i just got the car and the night after i was taking my friend for a ride and i was running it through the gears and then i noticed a bite of a knock and then it got louder and louder it would only make it above 2000 rpm so i took the motor out and took it apart and the number 5 cyl spun a bearing and number 3 had losened up and was about to go i also compressioned checked if before i took it apart to see if i would need to do the whole motor or maybe just a rod but the compression difference went from about 90 in the low and to 170 in the high with all plugs out and wot so order a whole new motor with a stronger bottom end thats my story

o yeah 130 miles is all i got to put on it since i got it now just waiting for the engine to come in

I have a gently used oil cooler setup, but I cracked the thin part with the o-ring that bolts to the block. basically its the oil filter base and the magic bolt. I'll let it go for $50

I agree with shelby guy. Ford also says, when engine massive failure replace the cooler but they also say to replace every other damn part.

When my engine pooped out...I let the thing soak in a parts cleaner for a day and I was good to go!

There is no easy or effective way to get metal shavings out of the cooler. Get a new one.

I also have the one off my car laying around if it is the same part number. Just took it off since it wouldn't clear the turbo headers.

The 01-04' Cobras share the same oil cooler. So I dont think the one off your 97' will work
