Judging by your user name, Im guessing you have a 01 Cobra with the stock 3.27s.

Gears wont add any horsepower, but they isn't a single bolt on you can do except for nitrous or forced induction that will make a bigger difference that a set of 4.30s.

What gears r they putting in? 4.10's?? So you figure 200 for gears and 25 dollars for bearings- that seems high -- i had my dif replaced for 300 dollars. maybe shop around- I could find u a place to do it for cheaper. Let me know. Josh

Hey i appriacate it alot but i live in Cali, so that would be alittle hard for me to find a place around you. But thats what i thought. $610 for parts and labor does sound kinda high.

+1, dont even bother getting gears if your gonna get 3:73's.

+2 When I had my '99 Cobra I was back and forth about putting in 3.90's (?) and 4.10's. I went w/ the 4.10's and couldn't have been happier. If you're only going to go w/ 3.73's it REALLY IS a waste of money. That much of a change in ratio won't give you the "ooph" you're going to expect.

Do some research and you'll see that most people go w/ 4.10's and a good number of people go w/ 3.90's and THEN go to 4.10's. Don't blow your money w/ 3.73's... do it right the first time... :headbang:

Many many many people have seen gas mileage of up to 25mpg highway with gears such as 4.10s or 4.30s.

The Naturally Aspirated DOHCs have a very high powerband stock, and riding along at 3000rpms is no big deal to them. And on a side note, on the highway at 70mph the rpms from 4.30s will only be a few hundred rpms higher than with 3.73s

I've got 4.10's and in the n/a days I wished I would have bought 4.30's or higher. Now with power adder I'm regressing to 3.73's when $ permits.

+1. If your staying N/A then go at least 4.10's. If you're planning on F/I or nitrous anytime soon then might want to stick with the plan of 3.73's so you are not smoking your tires off trying to get traction.

I ran a 4.30 in the early days of my Cobra. This was my first mod. The Cobra ran 12.20's with everything else stock and 366 RWHP. I had no problems on the Interstates and I was burning less gas in the city because I was in overdrive sooner. Of course I broke a half shaft and blew the rear end apart later, so I the took the 4.30 out and went to the 4.10.

Mine was a DD that I drove all over as long as there wasn't snow on the ground. Still LOVED the 4.10's.

As for top speed... The higher ratio will actually give you a higher top speed since you will be able to use 5th gear as an accelerating gear instead of overdrive. The way the car geared now, you'll top out in 4th gear and then 5th will be overdrive. The higher (numericly) ratio of the new gear allows the car to still be able to accelerate in 5th gear. And regardless... how often are you going to go on 0 - 155mph runs? :dunno: Now think about how many 25 - 100mph runs you'll do...

Trust us, you'll love them!!!!!! :biggthump

Hey you guys do you think $610.00 for rear gears w/ labor is to much in price. I was just thinking that, thats alot of mney for a mod that doesn't give HP. That money could go to another mod that can give me more HP. What do you peeps think.

not sure if I had quoted you or another shop, but price is very fair

M-4209-G410A $215
Fluids $20
Labor $350
+tax
comes in just around $605

I agree with most here if you do a gear do 4.10-4.30 and don't look back. :biggthump

Theoretical top speed yes...actual top speed no.

Your cars top speed will increase with gears such as 4.30s because your car will be higher in the powerband where the engine is making more Horsepower, hence given you a higher top speed.

+1 Atleaste ^someone^ knows what he is talking about :biggthump :headbang: The other day some idiot replied to another post like this one about 430's and didnt know WTF he was talking about as usual!

I run 430's And my car runs great at all speeds! BEST MOD I HAVE DONE YET!
When I had 373's I was like where did my $ just go? I didnt feel that much of a difference at all. Then I went to 410's and felt it finally :D But was wanting more so I opted for 430's and have been :D ever since!

Thats about what I payed also at Atomic Transmission. When they did my 93 cobra it was only about 500 though. The IRS was more work I guess.
