An emission question....

The day I pack up the car for the winter, I get my emission notice. What can I do to avoid taking emissions until spring? Can I just check the box saying that the car is out of commission temporarily?

Also, I have a Mac 3" and a Mac Off-Road Prochamber. Can I still take the emissions test? I know that they only do the ODB-II test now and my rear O2's are off so I shouldn't have a problem, but if I pull in rumbling will I get away with it? Is it maybe safer to have some fake cats welded on? What should I do? I don't want to go through the hassle of swapping mid pipes again.

Illinois does not do visual tests so i think you will be ok.

Illinois should be doing a visual test, but they are lazy and don't.. great for us. However, Illinois does run the Generic OBD II test and the IM240 test (dyno test, Non OBD II cars). You could rumble in their with the biggest loping cams, loudest exhaust and if all of the monitors has passed, along with a blub check (MIL light), and a gas cap test, then you should pass. You can play the system. Bring the ticket down to the testing station, go inside and pay $20 or $30 (not sure) for a pre-test, that does NOT go onto your record. If you pass swing right back around and take the real test. Plus You can Cut a cat. in half and weld them in, but thats too hard so I would just keep drving around untill I found a pass that didn't check the car & keep paying the $20 or $30.

Non OBD II cars, cats are a must, Make sure their isn't any missfires, Change you oil (gas in oil will raise HC), Dump a bottle of Emission stuff from napa into the gas (I think it is some type of Achool). Before you get into the "staging" area, drive the car for awhile and MAKE sure the cats are nice and hot, high idle the car in the lanes, whatever you got to do, the cats MUST hot!

My rear 02s are turned off with no smog pump a O/R X pipe and Borla catback, I pulled up in there stinking the whole place up with fumes and I passed :headbang: . But if for some reason they check to see if you have cats just say you bought the car like that.

I had my cats turned off on my Vette (2000) via LS1 edit and failed the emissions twice. I put sims on my TA (99) and passed. Therefore I put sims on my Cobra so hopefully I will pass. All of these cars had or will have to take the ODB II tests. My .02
