Transmision Fluid for T45

I just replaced the throuw out bearing in my 99 Cobra. When I went to refill the transmision, the Ford service CD said to use "MERCON° Multi-Purpose ATF". have never heard of using ATF in a manual transmision?

Is this correct, or what do you suggest?

idk what to exactly use but hans i believe use like royal purple in my trans..

Do not put any Synthetic trans fluid in your T45, use what the owners manual says or Valvoline Dextron/mercron will be fine

What's the reason for not using synthetic in the tranny? I am going to be doing mine this winter and wasn't sure what was best to use either.

I dont remember the exact reason why not to use Synthetic, but I know its something with the syncros.

Use the ATF as the manual states. I used to put a tube of friction modifier in it also. It helps the syncros work.

I've heard that something in the synthetic ATF attacks the lining on the synchros. I was told by a couple of very knowledgeable mechanics not to run synthetic ATF in my T-5 and T-45. Definitely not willing to take the gamble!

ATF is what Ford recommends. I feel the best fluid to use is General Motors Syncromesh. We stock it and you can get it at any GM dealer.

Yes many later model tranny's now use ATF. From everything I've read you should just stick with what the factory recommends...no synthetics in a T-45.
