I am looking at another cobra to buy, the owner says that the rear end has the pop. I used the search button on this site and could not come up with anything. (maybe Im stuiped LOL) Can someone please tell me what the poping is or whats the fix. Hears what the owner said.......(the car doesnt have (the tick,the vibe, but the rear end does pop) so hopefully the pics will be up tomorrow. i will put the vin up with the pics, the build date was 11-12 02 #3700 built.) Thanks for any help Tom

The pop could also be the tink sound. Start rolling in reverse gear or first gear and it would go "tink tink tink" or "pop pop pop" and then stop tinking/popping when up to speed (only does it upon starting, but if it starts doing it in 2nd - 3rd and so on, it's getting REALLY bad to the point of failure). Those are the axles splines missing and wearing to nothing. They are basically failing factory axles (bad from factory). The sound is the spline skipping over the hub, so the axle turns and the wheel/hub does not.

The fix is a new set of wheel hubs and axles, torqued to spec.

I have the axle "tink / pop" noise.

I had it fixed once under warranty, but it came back in less than 2000 miles.

It is getting slowly worse, but very slowly. I'm going to keep driving it until it it gets real bad, than get some aftermarket halfshafts and hubs.

Don't know what else to do.

the factory replacement hubs&bearings dont seem to have the same trouble. nytebytes is the first ive heard of it coming back.

the pop when you take off after backing up is the splines.


i have the tools and the parts to replace the rear hub and bearing. im in westmont.

Got some more info.. I have not driven the car yet. Reason being its 300miles away. The owner said it was never there until him and his friend put the IRS brace on. Then the poping started. hes been driving it like that for a year, says it does not seem to be getting worst. I guess my really ? is should I let this stop me from buying the car? O thanks for all ur input. Tom
